My wife says I'm too picky?

Any of you folks with the pre-40 stuff worry about your belt lines matching? I dont mean aligning....actually mean making the widths match for a clean match all the way around. I noticed yesterday that the belt line on my doors are nearly an 1/8 wider (thicker) than the same belt line on the cab. Even with it lined up....it just looks odd.

What do you think? Cut the door skin to make it match or am I being too picky?

I do not think that you are too picky. I have OCD and something like that would drive me nuts looking at it. I do not think that you could rest until you have it just right. Tell your wife that you know that you are too picky. That is why you married her.

Very nice!!! Like the last sentence! And believe me.....going to use it!

Ha....try having OCD and ADD together. My first wife didnt know what to make of me.....we lasted 16 years. Bless her. I found out during my separation that I had a problem......that is over half the battle. Now that I'm aware that I'm OCD I take better notice of it most of the time and try my best not to leave it for my family and friends to clean up.

I guess I'm just suprised that there is that much difference. Over and 1/8"....more like 3/16" I was told that the early Chevrolet's were made as a 'contract' type thing. Different manufacturers. Could it be my doors would fit a different body much better?

Are the Fords this bad? Like Model A's? Just curious.

Considering it is a 36, you're damn lucky if any thing really matches up. Quality control wasn't a big item back in those days, especialy at the value priced car plants.

But if you can fix it, do it. Not sure how many people will be looking at your truck with a micrometer though.

It would not matter to me as long as its within an inch I am good. Thanks for the tip Barb.

If you see it once, you will always see it.

Better fix it now before paint is wasted. .....because you will go back and make it right if this a "keeper".

    Ask me how I know.

Call it what you want but can be anal about door gaps and lines. On my 53 chev pickup I had the same problem and would not quit until I was happy with it. I've got sick of stuff and just painted it only to look at that spot first every time I saw the vehicle.
One think that helps me now is that I am 2 1/2 miles down a gravel road so my vehicles are too dirty to see imperfections

How appropriate the timing of this subject!

I just spent the "last two days" working on my High Boy three piece hood and grill shell alignment. I'm getting the fit finalized so I can take the body off the frame for paint and I won't settle for "JUST CLOSE". It's amazing how many different adjustments need to be made, and how when you make one small adjustment three others are then required. I'm to the point of everything fitting and working nicely and the belt lines are still line up. Now I need to go back and trim the gaps wider and straight. I drives me crazy to go to a car show and see a car with a $10K paint job and that the hood is a "full finger" off at the belt line.

I might need to start attending the AA "twelve step" meetings before the hood is done.

I'd probably go a little nuts on a hood alignment, but belt lines probably not. Hoods are like add -ons and need the adjustment, especially aftermarket hoods. To me belt lines are usually a factory issue and I can live with their mistakes but usually not my own.

John - you won't be alone at those meetings.

Ha Ha. I may need a membership card too John. The little 'smiley' says it all.
