What do you guys think of orange county choppers on the discovery channel?
I watch it while biting my tongue - the old man needs his butt kicked. I have never seen him do anything but rant and rave. The kid has talent - he just needs time to get it all together - the old man needs to pop a cold one and mellow out.............
I think a lot of the bickering is put on for the cameras. You ever notice when they do the family thing they all get along really well. It's just in the shop that they fight. I think Mikey and the Old man is a riot. Mikey is only there for two reasons. To make him laugh and to take out the trash. LOL!!!!! I think it is a great show. The bottom line is They do have talent. Now it's a toss up who builds better bikes...Jesse James or OCC. Jesse James gets on my nerves at times because of his arrogance but he does build a wild bike and he does do quite a bit of his own manufacturing. I don't know if I buy the whole Jesse James relative thing either. The reason being a few years ago when a bunch of so called relatives wanted JJ's grave exhumed where was the new JJ? But as far as bike is concerned he is good. Then when it comes to Monster Garage he does have some great ideas on how to get something to work. All except for this last episode when he hosed up the suicide hinges / door on the cop car / donut shop.:p

I like the program. I do agree that the fighting between Paul Sr and Paul Jr are an act. Every once in a while one or both of them are caught smiling after some remark toward the other. They are definately a talented group.
Very Good show!!
I like the show! The fighting maybe staged some...but it happens when family works together. Have you ever noticed some customer's bikes in the back ground? NICE looking rides:toocool:
It is them that are the "bread and butter" of the company.
I built a OCC inspred chopper out of my sons KNEX toys. Turned out pretty cool.
I just think the old man is a little jealous of Paul because he went through all of the hard work building up the business, and Paul is the one who gets most of the glory. He's a little argry because he is relegated to answering the phones and all of the business aspects while Paul just gets to build bikes. The old man doesn't understand the "creative process". He thinks his scare tactics will grease the wheels, but it doesn't really work. Creativity doesn't come at will.
I'm not sure how much the of the bitching is acted because the way the old man acts like a teddy bear around children.
I think paul jr is a slacker and the do not show much of it on camera but i think his dad over reacts a little too he has a great talent though OCC is good for theme bikes but I like jesse james costomer bikes better;)
Here is a jesse james costomer bike
and another
OCC has a block on there photos so I can not get any but compare those to what you see I personally like jesses bike OCC has wacky bars I like the Drag bars wich are on the 2 above just things like that:toocool:
" I got'a Tell ya " LOL Here are a few pics
:D
:o
15 years old and did this!!! SWEET !!! I want to be like Cody when I grow up!!
Those are the theme bikes they rock! but there costomer bikes are what I am talking about
I was on OCCs website not discovery
they both build wacky bikes, why cant any body appriciate the good olbobbers built out of anold pan head or knuckle or even a flat head...these guys are reachin with the far out stuff
The first Jesse James bike posted is his own bike he built it for himself so he could take a vacation to daytona and have a cool ride he kept it, and there is no way one can foret Billy Lane of Choppers INC. Oh wiat he builds a better bike than both places as voted by american iron and Big twins two of the most world known Harly mags, yet ever time discovery channel offers him a show he shoots them down so hes not as famous. why does he shoot htem down, simple I asked him that two years ago while I was in florida on a detail for the army, "I would rather build bikes my one true love than be on some dumb &*^ tv show wasting time and loosing money.
I forgot to talk about one other thing Jesse James does all his Fab work except pressure testing the fule tanks and paint and crome while OCC sends 90 % of there stuff out or has it orderd in from mass producers dont get me wrong both push some tasty Bikes but when it comes to quality and originality would you reather have somthing from a cat. or a bike that was built by hand from ther frame up. And two other good companys are bourgets bike works and exile.
Ino thats one thing i like about jesse james better 90% is done in house unlike OCC

Try and get a picture from them
Personally I find it all kind of amusing. I 've been riding on and off for 30+ years, an also do the occasional customers Harley in the shop (usually for friends I can't shoo away).
I usually try to do Bike week up in Phoenix every year, and when bikes really started getting hot about 7-8 years ago a lot of first time riders started showing up. Now when I go up there it seems like every year in an attemp to make their bikes unique every one is riding the same style bike. What starts as something unique one year (wether in good taste or not) seems to become the fashion the following year. My own bike is 31 years old and built in the same style I was doing in the late 60s/early 70s (without the god awful rigid chopper front end) and it's one of the more unique bikes there. The only real difference I see between the Bikes and Hot Rods in this respect is that the time from unique to trend to fashion is much shorter with motorcycles (likely because you can still use you original basic bike rather than starting from scratch to do major mods every time). One of the reasons I enjoy Sturgis is that the bikes come from across the country rather than it being a regional event and there are truely a large number of DIFFERENT styles represented.
I do enjoy the shows on Discovery showing the fabricatrion on these bikes, but my intrest mainly lies in the mechanical aspects rather than the cosmetic.
I also like all the shows that have been cropping up on cable TV... For the fans of American Chopper (OCC) you might be interested in knowing that Discovery has a new program in the making that will be called American Hot Rod... It will feature Boyd Codington's shop and the first project is a Boydster 2... I hope that American Hot Rod will help to create the same type of excitement in the Hot Rod world that showes like American Chopper and the Jessie James, Roger Borgett, and Arlen Ness specials have created in the Bike World... There are lots of car oriented shows on cable but I think that the current trend for reality TV is some of what has made American Chopper such a success...
BTW... Do you guys ever catch a program called Rolling Art... It aires about mid-day on the weekends in my market... Definetely worth a look if you get the chance...
Dave Brisco
Don't know what I did to make it post twice...
Rolling Art is basically a show for Hot Rod and Custom fans... They usually have several segments kind of like 20/20 or 60 minutes... Each segment will have a slightly different focus on the hobby... They might do a story on Andy Brizio and his T-shirt artwork and the next section might be about the history of the Salt Flats and feature Craig Breedlove then will show footage of the Mooneyes Yokohama show in Japan (Yes the Japaneese are into Hot Rods too), then they will interview a industry celebrity like Jesse James or Chip Foose at the Peterson Automotive Meseum...
BTW... Just for those of you who don't know Jesse was employed by Boyd Coddington and worked on hot rods and customs long before there ever was a West Coast Choppers... ;)
The best way to check it out for yourself on the net is to use the link below and check out their web site... Heck there is even a programing schedule so you can check to see when the show is on-air in your area... This one might make you want to sign up for cable!!!

Not to be confused with rolling art.
Streets, satelite? or are you the type of person that would rather not watch any tv at all and just enjoy the great outdoors? I was that way too when I was living outside of town. Seemed like as long as my house was outside city limits and didn't have another house right next door, I didn't watch tv, spent most of the day outside doing whatever, now that I am back in town, hardly ever go out.
But there are more options that cable, and for 35g's they better give you free cable for a few years.
It was Bike Week on the Travel Chanel all last week ... On Sunday the Discorery Channel aired the first edition of American Hot Rod featuring Boyd Coddington and Monday was the American Chopper marathon on Discovery... Last night Discovery also aired the Biker Build-off series featuring several of the Bike worlds biggest names including Billy Lane who was mentioned earlier in this thread...
Did any of you guys catch American Hot Rod?.. If so what did you think?... Below is a photo of the car that they built for the show, the Boydster III...
Dave Brisco
Coddington's painter was right, there is a reason you don't see many Blue and Yellow paint schemes running around.
Other than that, it was an interesting show. Would rather see a hands on builder featured myself. I sure wish they would have mentioned where the windshield was fabricated at and what materials where used. I need a couple pieces of custom glass made myself.

The Teutels live right down the road from me, I tell ya, That show is nothing compared to the "real" Teutels. These people are unbelieveable pieces of work. Now they have HUGE egoes to match.
They wouldn't happen to be from Batavia would they??:p
Well Wayquick if were going to talk about our neighbors I got one with a big ego. He's been in a lot of movies but never in a major role. He's been on tv too but he's better known as a Writer. He's had a few books published. Since we like to play guessing games here I won't give his name. Is it too easy or should I give some clues?
I don't know who the Teutels are. I don't have cable or sattelite just the three network stations the I pick up with the old rabbit ears.
AL
CLUES
The movies he was in were based on his books.
He plays guitar in a rock band.
Any guesses yet?
Okay so nobody reads books. Car magazines are my main source of reading material too. How about some automotive related clues.
One of his "few" books was a car book. It featured a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury and was made into a movie.
I used to run into him at the Irving station but he hasn't said hello since one of my in-laws was involved in an accident with him. The accident wasn't just local news or even national news It was reported around the world.
BTW where's M+M jr. the one who started this thread? I haven't heard from him for a while. Are you too busy racing that jr. dragster to go online Michael?
AL
Ah yes, you live near "royalty". Kinda scarey huh?
About the book thing, that's what your erstwhile "friend" Hillary says..................." A lot of people tell me my book is the first one they've ever bought"
Well, this doesn't have much to do about any TV shows or OCC but could be considered "Rolling Art" if ya stretch it a bit :D
Its a 2002 Boss Hoss "502" bike I saw at a small car show at Little Creek Casino last weekend.
Larry
Did he let you take it for a spin Larry??
Man, that thing's got to be a hand full, no, make that two hands plus all the pucker ya got!!!
Naw, no ride but I asked him how the balance was at a stop light and he let me sit on it to try it out. I have to admit, it was easy to hold up this beast!:3dSMILE:
He said it'll do 0-60 in under 3 seconds,,,,,,,, now thats fast in my book!! This thing sounded real good too, kinda like Brents 427SO Cobra(which is having some engine problems again-Geeessh!!).
Larry
And I thought the SBC version was too much... What's next, a Hemi on a skatebord?... These things are starting to remind me of an Ed Roth Monster cartoon!!!
Al... I did'nt know that Stevie played in a band... That is what threw me, as I knew that he liked to do cameos in his movies... My favorite was the Redneck in Creap Show!!!
