Found mint 66 ford galaxie 500 xl v8 with orig. 32K, need advice.
I have been seeing this car everyday for the last 2 years without really going down behind our shop to take a close look. I recently went to take a look and spoke with the owner who also leases our shop to us. The 66 ford is in good shape. It has a V8 and looks to have all the options like a/c, radio, auto. The interior is perfect minus a few stains on the seats. The headliner looks new! EVERYTHING on the car is original and intact, even the hub caps, and plastic water bag in the engine compartment (I think thats what it is). The owner says it was his great grandmothers and that is the original miles. The car has sat for 15 years under this huge shady tree behind my shop. I asked him what he would take for her and he asked me to do some research and figure out what its worth. I was wondering if you guys could help me. besides what I have explained the car does have slight rear end damage but the frame is OK. There is some surface rust on the inner wheel wells and on the frame but nothing rusted thru. He says he has the replacement turtle shell for the rear. He states the car ran when parked under the tree 15 years ago. I did notice the fuel tank cap is gone and the whole fuel tank will probably need replacing. Other then that the motor looks all intact. I did notice there was no filter on the carb. WHat do you guys think? I really would love to get this car but this is my first classic resto project and I think I can tackle it but stock on what to offer. SO I want to be fair to the guy and give him what its worth. Any help would be great. Thanks!
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
