Dave, in a pinch the fold down Mustang rear seats work well also. Not as roomy and cushy as the Fairlane but very doable. LOL, G.
Not to push the limits here, but AMC Eagles have a fold back seats. Makes for a nice flat surface

As for the ford, there are a few things to remember. Dont offer till you hear it run. If the car has low mileage and was parked, there had to be a reason. Listen for spun bearings, knocking, ect. Also, run your hands along the framerails from the door junction forward. A lot of the older fords (at least around here) seem to break from the middle forward. Feel for any irregularities you might not see. welding, fiberglass ect. Finally, remember you are starting a car that has been setting for 15 years. go through the Entire priming procedure. Oil in every cylinder for 24 hours or more, oil pump, drain the old gas out of the carb, replace the fuel filter(trust me) all before starting. Finally, if you do find you want it, Avoid Cops!
