that doesnt seem to sound like a bad car. i originally was going to offer my farmer neighbor 500.00 for a 66 ford custon 4 dr 72,000 miles that he had parked about 9 years ago. i told him i was going to fix it up and drive the kids around with it he told me take it.
i went over with a good battery 5 gallons of gas and aired up the tires and it fired up and i drove it home.
i have about 3,000 into it right now an its looks great drives great and with the 289 and 3 spd standard(really low rear end) i can get close to 25 mpg as long as i keep it below 65 mph.
i like the larger cars 2dr or 4dr from the mid 60s . as long as the price is right and its looks solid go for it. its a good start.
