That's how I spent my weekend! Plowing and shoveling.. It's gonna get cold, be safe out there!
Plowed 4 times today not going out anymore waiting till tomorrow they just said we will get another 4/6 by 7AM
We started at 16 degrees this morning. Now it's 50! Tomorrow will be back into the teens / twenties..
Got some pictures from my sister back in Illinois this afternoon (looked quite a bit like the ones you posted Charlie).
Over the last couple of weeks I've been trimming out some of the excess/overgrown trees on my place. My daughter and son in law use a wood stove to help cut their heating bills, so I went ahead and cut the split the wood for them to use (a bit over a half cord by the time I was done).
Between the pictures of snow and cutting the wood I am reminded of 2 things:
1. Why I live in Arizona
2. Why I don't heat with wood.

To all of you in the storms path stay safe.

Yup, it's winter. The forecast hi for tomorrow is -11.......
We got over 12" here in the St Louis area depending on where you lived.
All I know is when I pulled our 06 Yukon 4x4 out of my garage tonight I was pushing snow.

-34 Wind chill. Just came in from opening up the driveway.(AGAIN) Chris is on her way to work and I'm sitting here warming up...Got to get the heater working in that plow truck. They say heating with wood gets you warm 4x Cutting it splitting it stacking it burning it I could think of a few more. Loading it hauling it unloading it I'm sure there are more but I'm glad I did most of that back in the summer. They have notices out that if you are traveling you have to have a good reason??? -14 there has to be a good reason. They need all cars off city streets so they can plow.
stuck in the drive way to road 12 feet . stuck in the road five feet out of drive way. 60 feet to main road. going for the run up ... foot to floor to get some wheel speed made it .. stuck at road stop sign... So back up truck to the drive way stuck 15 feet from it. so i am going to get 400 pounds of sand for weight when i can drive out to get it
It's so cold across the entire upper central US that politicians have been spotted with their hands in their own pockets! Now THAT's COOOOOLD!!
The fact that they are somewhere to be spotted is amazing

Here you go Charlie
ROBOPLOW - YouTube
.
I like the Al cartoon - found it quite ironic last week that the ship load of greenies that were traveling to the south pole to "prove" global warming and the melting ice cap were stranded when their ship got frozen into the Arctic Ocean :D:D:rolleyes:
And I REALLY like Roboplow!! I had seen a remote control toy plow, but it had a little blade about a foot wide and 4" tall. This one is a 50" blade, which is what I've got on my little garden tractor! What a hoot!
I guess those people on that boat found out that you shouldn't mess with Mother Nature!!!!!!!!!
A real heat wave coming in!!! Temp today is forecast for 20 degrees, that's 40 degrees warmer then Sunday! Supposed to be in the 30's through the weekend, a regular heat wave!!!!!
I remember once back in the 60s when I was still a mech at UAL that it had been below zero for days like now and it got up to 10 above and we'd go outside to bring in the next piece of equip in our shirt sleeves (long, but no coat)
My pipes froze for the first time ever. I forgot to let the faucet drip, and my better half left the door to the pump shed wide open. I caught it soon enough, no pipes broke, but it did damage the pressure guage and pressure switch. It made for a good time to switch out to the redundant pressure switch in the house.
Here we go still...again...whichever you prefer...
Windchill to the -20 or 30s, snowing, windspeed to be around 30mph!!
Expecting 4inches tonight.
I believe I am begining to detest wimter!! Its been either snow, below 0, or high winds every other day!! Sometimes all of it combined... Boooo..
;-(
Hey,if it makes you feel any better,,even though it was about 70F here today,,we have rain coming tomorrow..:whacked:But no snow in the foreseeable future..;)
Yeah Robin RUB it in we will give it back in 6 months. haha I just came in from OPENING up the drive way AGAIN the drifts were up to the windows on the cab of the 91 Chevy and it has a 3" lift kit. The wind took a section of fascia off my shop. I think that will be a spring time repair.
BURHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Up here we are looking at extreme water conservation, due to the dryest winter in over 100 years. Seems strange not to get rain this time of year. I think we usually get 20-25 inches of rain a year, but so far I think we are at 1 inch. Normally we worry about too much rain, so this is new for us.
Wow,Charlie.. That's extreme.. You guys are getting enough snow for the next two winters.. I hear people down here moan about the wind and rain we get in winter,,and I just tell them to stop bitchin.. Think about what they get in the Northern Hemisphere.. I don't honestly think half of them realise what you guys go through up there,to get through winter..
I just came in from opening up the drive again. If you don't keep up with it, it gets to where it takes all day to open it. I run the plow to the road (1/4 + mile) turn around and come back in that time the wind has it half closed again. coffee and cookies now. Spring is just a few more snow storms away. If I remember right we only got like 23" of snow last season. I don't know how much we got this season but I'd bet twice that or more
Tried to PM you back about the weather Charlie.....your message box is full!!!!

20-25 inches!
And you worry about too much rain?
We're considered to be quite high up the side of our hill, (Mt. Egmont,) 750 ft., and we get 6 ft. of rain annually whether we need it or not.
And we've had snow only about half-a-dozen times in the last fifty years.
With those two factors, that's why we can grow grass all year round, (albeit a bit more slowly over winter,) and can run dairy cows outside all year round too.
Yep; God's Own Country alright!
so I guess you need to put windshield wipers on your rods????????????
