That's an understatement!
There's an old cliché: 'If you can see the mountain; it's going to rain. If you can't see it; it's raining!'

Heck yes Jerry and front brakes on our light weight cars. We might not get to drive on ice much unless one lives down Southland or Central Otago way but aqua planning on a sheet of water on a wet greasy road is damn exciting too. I still am stunned to see guys build T Buckets etc with no front brakes up in the USA. as even city running requires good braking.
This is all i gotta say
:LOL::LOL: Ring, Ring, Ring - "DON!! DON!! IT'S THAT LADY FROM THE HOMES ASSOCIATION. SOMETHING ABOUT A SNOWMAN???":LOL::LOL:

Sun dogs mean it won't be warming up soon, either!!!!
You'd think the whole continent moved North with all this mass cold everyone is getting.
They say that 1" of snow = see below.
That is usually common knowledge for meteorologists.
They also have that info here: What is the formula for switching rain to snow in inches? - Yahoo Answers
The general formula is as follows.
About 1 inch of rain = 10 inches of snow.
However, there are various forms of snow. Some is low density while other snow is high density. This will help you in general.
If it is a dry, cold snow and the temperature is BELOW 12ºF than the snow is most likely LOW DENSITY and with the following formula.
12 inches of snow = 1 inch of liquid rain.
If the snow falls when the temperature is between 12ºF and 24ºF then the average of 10 to 1 - 10 incoes = 1 inch of rain - can be followed in general.
If snow is falling and the temperature is between 24ºF and 28ºF the snow is more dense usually and the following forumla is used in general. 7 inches of snow = 1 inch of rain.
If the temperature is above 28ºF and lower than 31ºF than it is usually a heavy - wet and dense snowfall with some melting taking place especially in heavy snows. Then the formula wildely varies but usually 5 inches to 1 inch - 5 inches of snow = 1 inch of rainfall - is used.
I saw that sundog too.

It made it above freezing today. Now we'll pay for that warm weather with 12'' of snow & then back to the deep freeze, followed by even more snow on Tuesday.
We made it out to the Starved Rock Eagle Watch last Saturday.

:-(
so you were actually lucky that it was cold enough not to melt---------------------
Thanks Dave. It was fun & I think it's already on our calendar for next year.
still snowing I have it 5" high every where now down both sides of the drive way...Weather man says we have 80+ inches this season and more to come
Wow lots of snow! We have thankfully got 3" rain in the last 24 hours per my rain gauge, looking at possibly 7 inches for this storm front, all in 3 days, = landslides etc... but we need every drop! They say another front will come in on Wednesday, so hopefully February will be a wet month, and fill our reserviors with much needed water, also snow in the Sierras will be good for summertime snow melt water!
Charlie, you may think about having someone crawl up and knock some snow off it roof just in case you guys get more. That would be a bad deal if it would hurt your roof. We had a lot of people have those issues three winters ago.
Steve, that definitely sounds like a lot of rain coming down for sure. Good luck with it!
we are at 4.07 inches this morning for the storm that started Friday. It's coming down lightly right now, but there have been a few mud slides in Sonoma County already.
Gee,you guys are getting it all in the wrong places..Steve,,we have friends up in Truckee,,and I don't think they have had much snow this winter,yet..With the storms that are slapping the other side of your country,,it must be wearing thin by now.. Seen pix from Kentucky, and around Bobby's place,,and a guy up around Lansing(I think),,seem to be snowed in still,on a regular basis..And some people down here bitch about a few days of rain.........
4.23 inches now
8 - 10inches expected today thru tonight.
Late Tuesday night thru Wednesdsy about an inch of ice!!
Yup its official-- I Very much dislike winter!!
Be smart, be safe out there!!
Snowing again BUT they say 40 tomorrow. Let the flooding begin.
We had 12 inches yesterday and more coming for tomorrow.
Alas Sunshine here
Got a little here too.
28C down here yesterday,,and shaping up for the same here today..It's 7.33AM,Wednesday,,blue sky,,and soon,,I will be fitting myself up with my own personal sauna suit.. AKA paper overalls..:D:D if this keeps up,,NASCAR guys will be running studded tires in the first race..:whacked::whacked:
Mike, it'll probably be still & clear by 6pm.;)
Still snowin' & clear up to your backside!!:HMMM::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:
It looks like it's turning to rain so I just got in from throwing it on top of the pile.
I know we're getting "our share" when I can't use the plow anymore... only the thrower from now on as it has to get piled higher and higher..
