NA$CAR and the Indy 400 debacle

I've been watching NA$CAR racing since the days of the Chrysler 300's and while I've seen my share of middlin', piddlin' races the "Allstate 400' yesterday, July 27 has to be one of the nastiest, biggest fiascoes I have ever seen to be called a competitive 'race'. Yes, the last 8-9 laps out of a 160 lap race with Johnson and Edwards was almost interesting, but you just had to wonder which of them was going to blow a tire and end up in the wall and finish at the tail end of the pack. And Johnson did blow a tire attempting a burnout. Then to listen to Goodyear try to defend their crappy tire. The BS about the abrasiveness of the surface - it sure didn't bother the Indy cars 6 weeks ago on their Firestones. Mr Goodyear, that track surface is a KNOWN value in the equation - stop the BS. The COT is a fact of life as well and testing has been going on for 2-3 years - so it too is a KNOWN value in the equation. A "competition caution(?)" every 10 laps sure doesn't make for much "competition". The paying fans sure didn't get their money's worth and at the price of a ticket, the refreshments, the costs of getting there and accommodations - for sure I would wonder if it was all worth it. NA$CAR is still reporting full houses - that Indy race didn't have anywhere near the full house nor the 250K in attendance they so glibly reported. Makes me want to turn off the boob tube and take a nap

You are absolutely correct and, as time progresses, the fans will get tired of the bland races. The cars are the same, the tires the same, the engines are moving towards the same...the only difference is the drivers and the paint schemes on the cars.... NASCAR is quickly becoming the same as the IROC format.

I can't buy a single component of the Chevy, Dodge, Ford. or toyota engine from my local dealer....Outside of a NASCAR cup car, I will probably never even see one of these motors.

Personally, I TIVO the race and watch it in fast forward until the last 10 laps. The race yesterday was even boring in fast forward

With the many years I have attended Indy.that was the most boring race I have ever seen.Goodyear has a lock on the NASCAR circuit, and this is not the first time this has happened.

Wake up and quit catering to Goodyear or start losing your fans. I wish the car owners could run the tire of their choice.

The cars are starting to be like the Indy.cars cookie cutter and controlled by the Circuit.I am starting to like the European style racing,at least they have a variety of cars.JMO

I generally tape races as well - but yesterday was a "down" day - we got home from a vacation trip about 2:00 and I decided to watch instead.

Even the Busch (Nationwide ??) races with the same drivers for the most part and the old cars tend to be more 'racy'

I dont know about the other nascar races this year, But the brickyard was probably 20% down on attendance this year. I sat in front of the seat I paid for, I had 3 emty seats on both sides of me, and 4 empty seats in front of me. I could have done a crazy arm swinging spinning dance and never even hit anyone. But I chose to sit and watch 50 caution laps instead. I actually left 20 laps early, It was obvious Johnson was gonna win anyway.

Geez I don't know.... If you like 12 lap heat races, it was one heck of a bunch of them all in one day....when they gonna run the feature, anyhow????

I notice they didn't interview Tony after the race...sure would of liked to hear his opinion of the tire Goodyear had for the race!!!! Heck, I think the new tires on my pickup would have worked better then the junk they brought!!!!!

The track surface is for 1350 pound Indy cars, ya'd think them Goodyear engineers could have come up with something that went more the 10 laps, heck a set of Gatorbacks would have been better.... Well, I betcha today was really full of laughs at Hoosier Tire!!!!!!

I've seen 10-12 lap heats but only the hobby stock heats had more then 12-15 cars. Forty two cars in a heat plus Waltrip makes for wad up potential

Hoosier is trying to break that Goodyear stranglehold but NA$CAR says no way can they do that - kickbacks anyone, maybe. ARCA doesn't seem to have that tire problem with their Hoosiers - anywhere but Goodyear and about every third race seems to boil down to their tires!!

I think Tony is being quiet with his public utterances lately with his new 'association' and needing to be a good boy for a while - at least until he can get his act together for next year.

If they address the tire issue, it will be with what happened when they let Hoosier supply tires along with Goodyear.....tires didn't last and races had too many yellow laps...... Kind of like Sunday, I think!!!! Dang shame when one company can dictate the turnout of a race....Could that be called a monopoly, or maybe refusing to offer other companies a chance to show their tire quality in a race????? No, NASCAR would never do that, would they????????

It's like a track decreed tire.

Even the NHRA TF and funny cars have to run Goodyears. You're right - it is a monopoly - and they are a problem there as well

I've gotten to the point that I wont even consider Goodyears on any car that I own. The last were on my past (new) 2 p/ups. They got so hard that the painted road centerline, if it was wet, was like ice. Then they were noisy beyond belief. I have Continentals on my present F350 - and at 47K still seem to be good

It sucks how NASCAR will strip 100 points away from a driver if he says something. I'm sure if it was just a fine, a lot of drivers would rip Goodyear.
It's just more of the Politically Correct-Corporate BS can just seems to ruin everything.
