This is an example of something that makes this country great---many have fought and died for freedom of speech

It pleases me that you look at it in that light. Thanks Jerry.

From one Richard, to another Richard

Tech, All’s well, that ends well. Back to the old grindstone, got the f250 going, wife bought new plugs, I scrapped the contacts on the cap, and rotor, cleaned up no1 plug. Saved the new plugs for when I really need them, and the old 79 Ford 351 fired up. Now I can drag some downed trees.

No need to apologize Richard, these threads are for open discussion! If it gets off track, that`s cool with me, i personally like when things take a turn, it allows us to talk about other subjects besides cars! Plus it lets us all know each other a little better, it would sure suck too finally meet some of you and find out that we really could not get along.

Richard I appologize to you too. And your right, without spell check, I appear to be uneducated, I guess all that college wears off when your passionately stating your opinion.
I'm glad we all can continue to voice our thoughts without fear of retribution!

Damn!, with all of these apologies I feel like I need to so also. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I have nothing for which to apologize.

Being a long time member of the SAR, I can appreciate and understand many of the things Tech has said and many of his beliefs, even though some may be deemed antiquated by current standards. I can also understand and appreciate the positions of others here. And I whole heartedly agree that each and everyone of us has a right to an opinion and the freedom to express it by the written or spoken word. Many good people have died to give us that right amd many more to protect it.

That being said, I now wish to switch gears and repeat those otherwise famous words......."Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines"!!!! It's time to get back on track and talk hotrod stuff.

I sure am sorry I had to work today as this has been a very lively discussion to say the least.
FWIW, I've known Tech for 50 years and his opinions were not formed overnight and are concise and to the point and I applaud him for bringing to light what has been in the dark for way too long.

Glad you guys could see this thread for what it is (and is not) and have now buried the hatchet (and not in anyones foot I might add). Being in the lounge does leave me a little bit more leeway as to what stays and what does not. As for Freedom of speech, yes we applaud it, but at the same time realize that certain lines when crossed must be dealt with in a less than idealistic manner for some of your tastes

Now, back to the question at hand. Why are gas prices exorbitant today.

If you'll go back to posts 17 and 18 and really, really read the content contributed by Big Tracks and written by Ed Wallace, it'll all fall into place for you. It's not a supply problem. It's not a refining problem. It's not a point-of-purchase retail problem. It's a problem with our duly elected officials. The people we hire to look after us. Problem is, they're not looking after us, they're looking after big money and lining their pockets with the results.

Here's the gist of the problem in one paragraph:
"It was called H.R. 5660, the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000. At first this bill went nowhere in the House, not even up for debate. Then, a few months later, late one night a 242-page bill written by Wall Street lawyers, with the exact same name as the former House bill, was quietly added to an 11,000-page appropriations bill, and the Enron loophole was created. The power behind that bill was one Texas Senator, one Texas Congressman and their wives."

And yes, I'm ashamed to say that apparently Republicans were behind it. I don't know if we can even fault all the legislators who voted for it. They may not have even known it was riding on the butt-end of the original legislation. How do you sit down and read 11,000 pages of a bill so that you can make an intelligent decision about how to vote for it, even if you cared what was in it? More of the problem, I don't think our representatives cared what was in it. Just more of the same "Go along to get along" way of doing business in Washington.

Anyway, I'm pretty much convinced that we have identified the problem as being caused by futures speculators who are allowed to drive up the price of crude because they are out of the jurisdiction of the SEC. Anyone have any remedies for this? How do we get this legislation killed?
Want to lower gas prices? Then get this bill rescinded and get these futures speculators back under the control of the SEC. Sounds simple, but how will it be accomplished?

I want you to get mad. I want you to go to the window and yell....I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore.

I was quite angry and getting ready to jump on my 1 senator[ hillary is the other]and then a press release came out from my rep in the House calling for action to cut consumption, encourage alternatives to oil based products and rein in the price gougers and speculators who drive up prices. he also states that there is congressional action setting a cap at 2.59 a gallon. This news did cheer me up a bit. Hank

I've been saying for the last month or so that speculators are the primary cause of high gas prices and I wasn't aware that Congress can reign them in. If enough people are informed of the situation maybe Congress will get off their duffs and remedy the problem.

I will post it again....you better take a reak good look at her face and pay very close attention to the words that are not used and the overall tone of the event......
Let the reality of it sink in........she is publicly announcing that if she tells the people whats going on she is fired.specifically about the dollar being almost worthless....
OIL is no more exspensive than it was ...other countries have not increased thier gas prices in pennies....
THE DOLLAR IS WORTH LESS THAN 50 CENTS .......THIS IS THE REASON GAS IS ALMOST DOUBLE........

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MugH...eature=related

This lady is suppose to tell us whats happening and she is under a gag order not to tell us.......do you people even concieve what that means ........she has publicly announced we are being kept in the dark and even worse they are admitting it......throwing it your face and saying there is nothing you can do about ,I am not going to tell you anything that is actually relevant and I am under orders to not tell you ,as a matter of fact she will get fired from her job ,if she does it...................................THINK about it ....she will be fired for telling us anything that is really happening...do not talk about the worthless dollar to the people or your fired.........you think this is the only person that has a gag order......or thats the only thing they gaged ordered about...........

Better listen to Richard ,its over ,has been over and we all well into the backside decline of it being over ,the officials are being told not to tell us its over or be fired................This way of life is about to cease.............But they have a solution .....The north Amercan free trade act......or more specific ,the uniting of Canada ,Mexico,America into one country named, they already have the name ..NAU...North American Union..............

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Oh_...eature=related

These are direct quotes from the horses mouth.............about you and me being sheep and its better for them to lead us where they want than for us to have a choice.....I have also seen the quote many times thanking the media for not covering any of thier events as to allow them to work under the cover of darkness.....
