iv`e had my cell phone now for 5 years .. once in a great while i would try or need to make a transaction by phone and would always get frustrated and fail .. the computor generated voice would say ." please enter your 16 digit credit card # followed by the pound sign ... i always messed it up .. now i know why .. i never knew what the pound sign was till today .. to me this sign ( # ) said " number " not pound ... it took the laundry to teach me ...iv`e used up all my sick days at work .. can i call in dead ?

Dictionary, 'old school'Octothorpe.
Hmm.
Just looked it up in my Oxford English Reference Dictionary.
It isn't there.
But it sure sounds impressive!
Look it up on the web, it's there, so it's gotta be true!
