Not to wax nostalgic, but when I see kids shooting kids, parents who don't know how or are afraid to disipline their kids, crime that is out of control, etc. I am so happy I knew a different time for most of my life.
We certainly weren't perfect, there was racial bias, sex bias, etc. But for the most part we knew and cared about our fellow man and had good, solid values. I grew up knowing I would be in trouble if I did wrong, and I tried to raise my Kids the same way. Yep, I spanked their butts on more than one occasion..........didn't beat them, but enough to let them know they did wrong.
Now I see all this political correctness, and things like "time out" and feel this is why school yard today look like armed camps.........high chainlink fences, armed guards, and good kids who are afraid of the not so good ones who carry weapons to school. We have even made it so that a caring parent is afraid to be strong with their child for fear they might end up in trouble themselves.
NOPE, GIVE ME THE OLD DAYS FOR SURE.

i toldyouso i agree with what you said. but i feel that some of the freedoms we have in our schools now are for the good. when i was in school in the 70's we were not allowed to questions our teachers on points of interest. now my son enjoys that privlege without being afraid of a trip to the office. our schools now are more diverse and we have to take into consideration more and more of other cultures. Things might not be as great in alot of ways as they were a while back. But in the schools of today they are exercising their right of expression like never before. And that can not be all bad. I am not for the violence and disrespect and i am for children being disciplined within reason without the local goverment having a say. But if some parents of today would take time to be with their kids instead of buying them things that keep them quiet maybe children will have more respect for their elders and people in authority. I know that mine does. and they better.BARB

My Daughter is a teacher and one on the students in another class refused to stand up for the pledge in the morning. Damn if the teacher didn't get 3 days off and almost fired. F*** the little bas*****--getting a free education in this country and has no respect .Last edited by Larry M; 11-13-2007 at 12:09 AM.
