Hey, I just realized you've got all this talent.... and I've got a rusty blue Binder truck... HMmm... remember, resistance is FUTILE!:LOL::LOL::LOL::p
Yes, it is! I tried to stop myself; didn’t work. Thankfully it hasn’t been a ton of money; just time and MIG wire.
Luckily the plans for this one are
"pretty minimal"
Ooohh, that was low. :devil
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who will save some badly rusted stuff. Props to your perseverance.
If you want to see some ambitious rust repair, this guy's thread will blow your mind.

I remember a documentary I saw about Cuba's car restorers. This guy rather casually states that all the grey panels on this car they dragged out of the woods were replacement panels they made using metal from an old Russian water tower. The ENTIRE shell was grey! They had hand - formed an entire car one panel at a time. Amazing.
Pat, I checked out the thread on the hamb. Holly cow, they sure love that car. He has done some amazing work to it for sure! so I guess you convinced me you're slacking.
Just kidding. Have a Merry Christmas!
I'm with you on that.
I too went over to the HAMB site for a look.
Crikey!
She's Oldsmobubble Cutlass wasn't as rough as that and yet we scrapped it.
But you've got to admire the bloke's skills, tenacity, and just pure balls for tackling a job of that scale.
Good on him; and good luck to him.
What he's accomplished is incredible.
Just a piece at a time. I didn't see the whole thread but he sure put some nice effort in.
Beats me why he's using rusty steel for the patches though.
The sheet he was using for the patches got rained on for a few days. I can relate.
I got the drivers side rocker tacked in, made a repair piece for the rear wheel opening and got a decent start on the other rear corner today. I’ve got the first week of January off work; I hope to have all the patching on the body done and the welds ground down by the end of that week so I can start on the doors.
These old vans are pretty cool! Have you seen the one that Foose built on Overhaulin?

The Wheeler Dealer guys built one, too but left the patina on it...
Nice work, Falcon!
looks like the A-Team
Except that was a 1983 GMC Vandura 1ton....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CBWvLkHlVc...
That was a great show; George Peppard was awesome.
I'm going to be painting the inside of the van since I'm going to do a color change. Anyone know if there is any kind of primer I can use that doesn't have to be wet sanded before top coating that will look decent? The thought of trying to wet sand the entire inside of this thing sounds pretty painful.
The other spring mount was in much better shape; just cleaned up the surface rust, hit it with some POR-15; and made a new backing plate section to tie it all together.
I've heard nothing but good things about SPI primers & clears... https://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/
Thanks, Randy; I’ll check into that.
I got the other corner on; now I need to patch the floor on this side and make a tail pan. Then all I have left is one small area to patch by the side doors.
I'm really lovin the van, thanks for the pics.
Finished patching the floor today and got most of the tail pan finished.
Tail pan is tacked on; started on the last area to patch.
You are making great progress on the van! I hope you and your wife have a Happy New Year Pat!
Thanks, Ryan. Same to you and your family.
I agree, you've been hard at it and made great progress.
And yes, Hope you and yours have all the best in 2018.
Love the old beast, and glad to see you're keeping it all MOPAR!!!!!!
Finished the last patch area; that will probably be it for pictures for a while. The next few weeks I’ll be finishing up the welds, grinding, and sanding off the rest of the old paint. Pretty boring stuff.
BORING?? Boring??? How can it be boring with that carpet in the room?:LOL::LOL:
Was that in the van prior?:D:D
Lol! No, we remodeled our living room and that was the old area rug. Alicia donated it to the garage when she bought new rugs. It is pretty trippy looking; I feel like I’m having an acid flashback if I stare at it too long.
Far Out Man!
My luck that rug would be in flames after the second weld.
I had to stomp it out a few times! But it beats laying on the cold concrete.
Busy week! Sanded all the old paint off, finished a good portion of the welds, dropped the leaf springs off to get re-arched, and painted the underside of the rear where all the repairs were done so I can put the rear end back in this week. It'll be easier to work on when I can roll it around again.
You're making great progress! I'm jealous...
Nice work on it!
It's nice to see Bobby back here too.
