    Nice work Gator! 3 of the 4 39's I had had sever rust in the same areas you are repairing right now. Are you filling in the cowl vent to avoid a leak in the future, or just need more room for an A/C kit?

    A friend has a 38 coupe that is rusted in the same areas as well. That tool tray in the trunk, and the fact that the truck lids leak so bad contribute to that area rusting. I filled the cowl vent for looks, and the car will be A/C.

    Hidden hinges

     



    So>>It took me a full 30 hrs to install this first hidden hinge.(first ones ever attempted) To say that they almost kicked my butt is an understatement

    Started with the rear doors, which are suicide.

    I tell you......it took me a full day of measuring and staring at that pillar to take a zip wheel to it.

    I clamped the hinge up to the pillar and marked the placement.

    Then I had to figure out where the pockets went in the doors. I set the doors in the opening and marked them out before doing any cutting. I used 2.5" channel to form the pockets for the hinge arm.

    After the hinge was installed, I had to brace it on the back side. I used .5" square tube.

    Everything done and the door hung. Got to get after the rest now

    That looks really nice! I'm thinking I might do mine, but we'll see how many parts get purchased first. By the way, how'd those front fenders turn out? You're dragging that out on purpose aren't you?

    HAHAHA Dont U know it
    I got them welded up......just need to throw some mud on em and block em. Going to NSRA nats in Tampa this w/e so not much getin done on Saturday.

    I had to cut through the door sill to install the new hinge arms.

    Had to weld up the slots in the outside of the doors where the old hinge arms attached. I also welded up the door handle holes as all the doors will be elect. popped

    Terp, you may already have it covered or may have another way, but my doors were aligned when I got the roller, and before I loosened the bolts on the hinges I drilled a couple of 1/16" alignment holes in each hinge, through the body and backing plate to ensure that I got it back to the same spot when the doors went back on, without any of the adjustment hassles and worries of chipping paint. Saved my butt when I had to pull the passenger door to fix a pinched wire for the windows a few weeks back....

    Better late than never. I found that little tip some time ago and drilled my hinges large enough to get an alignment tool in there. Works great!

    SO--- It's been some time since I've posted and I've been pretty busy. Got the body done and sent it off the the paint shop. Got it back a few weeks ago and wife and I set it down on the chassis. Got a ways to go yet, but it's starting to look like a car again.

    Man, that paint job is amazing and as I thought the car looked cool before, you certainly taken it to a higher level. The engine sounds grunty too.
