Thread: 1972 Chevy K30 Longhorn Build

I hope this is ok to post here guys. This is aother project of mine that I've had for a long time. I haven't had much time to spend on it lately, but am going to try to get it running before September 5th so I can take it to the All truck nationals in KC September 7th.

This truck started out as a 1972 C20 Longhorn. I have converted it to 4wd and it has a Dodge Dana 60 up front, a dodge Dana 80 in the rear, a P-pumped 24v with compound turbos, a NV4500 with a dual disc clutch, and a NP241DHD. I plan on this truck being my daily driver work rig one day. Here are some random pics through out the build.

Right now it is sitting out side with no engine and stuff. I have to get the 88 burb done I'm working on before I can get back to my own stuff.

What, no love for trucks here?

Not sure why but, the pics weren't there yesterday but they are there now! That'll be quite ride when you're done. I never heard of a "Longhorn" model, what was different about it?

Very cool; i dont know much about diesels but what your doing looks like it will be a great ride. Keep posting, I just started looking at your thread today.

I know nothing about diesels either, but I recognize ingenuity and fabrication skills - this should be one awesome truck. I venture you could wrap a chain around about anything and drag it off with that kind of brute strength!

Love this year of Chevy specially being a 4WD , only thing is I like short beds . Looks like it will be a tough cruiser

Yup,,I got a truck..Just looked at your pix..I reckon it will be a regular stump puller..All the pipe work got me dizzy,,Betcha I could have fun in the mud with that brute.. I,too like that year Chevy truck..but my preference would be BBC and manual..

Thanks. The Longhorns were only made from 1968 to 1972. They were in both Chevrolet trucks and GMC trucks. However the GMC versions never had Longhorn badging. The biggest difference in the Longhorns is that they were built on a 1 ton chassis and the bed is 6" longer than stock. They also all had wood floors. This is why I converted this truck to 4x4 and the bed is now steel floor.

Thanks, I'll update it more as I can. It's "curing" out side while I work on a customer's rig.

Thanks Glenn. The piping was an issue. I want the factory a/c to be used on the truck, and fitting the primary turbo in there was a bit tricky. I'm shooting for a reliable 550-600hp with this set up. It'll just take getting it done to find out. LOL
