Thanks! Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's either a dirty or bad MAF sensor. Everything else is testing good. I'm sure it'll run better once it's tuned, too. I'm still torn between sending the ECM off and having someone do it, or buying one of the J3 port tuners and giving it a go myself.
If you go the port tuner way, at least you have the option to change it if you like later.
That's what I'm thinking. I never tried using one but there seem to be plenty of resources to help figure it out.
I got my fenderwells finished and installed, lots and lots of 1/4 x 20 bolts in the front clip, and the forward wiring harness put back together. I used one of those GM weatherproof 6 pin molex plugs to connect it to the firewall harness; pretty cool stuff. I should have been using those a long time ago. I hope to knock out a big list of little stuff the coming week and then concentrate on driveshaft/exhaust after payday.
Lots more done this week; exhaust is on except for the tailpipes, clutch is hooked up and working, front bumper is on, hood hinges are on, pulled the MAF apart and cleaned it, figured out the tach wiring and got it working, plus several other small jobs. The front is sitting about 1 1/2" lower; the front shocks were too long and bottomed all the way out so I pulled them off and will get new ones. I started it this afternoon and let it run about 30 minutes. After stumbling for a few minutes it settled down; idles really nice and throttle reponse seems good. Vital signs all look good. Still need to get a programmer but this is pretty promising. For exhaust I just went with a couple of Summit's house brand of glass packs and 2 1/4" pipe. It has a really interesting tone especially when you rev it.
Bitchin'!!!!!
I love all these cars that we never would have thought about hot-rodding back in the day. Great project.
That is really looking good.

A lot of work BUT a lot of fun
Car is really looking good! When all is done and the tune up complete I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the performance the little engine has---and the mileage!
Thanks, all. I'm really looking forward to test drive to see how it does. Still hoping for a May maiden voyage.
It's looking really good and you're getting really close. I know how ya feel for sure on the budget thing. My car is suffering really bad because of that right now. Haha
