Don yep a Nailhead is the only reason to pull a Ford and put in a GM .
Mike yeah knee stops the long hours , but I get to play a bit . Yesterday my POR 15 engine paint kit cam in so I started the stripping today a little bit . Picked these stickers off ebay . Here is the paint kit also .

Bobby,
How does that Por 16 engine enamel hold up around the exhaust ports?
Jack.
Jack from what I have heard and what POR 15 states it will not burn off . It was manufactured just for this application . Now I hope all this is true hate to redo anything down the road .
Bobby glad you posted this thread. For some reason I'm not getting the photos to load on your page, but am enjoying your posts!
Great score on both engines! Not saying you need to do it, but your picture reminded me that a while back I was in Scotty Sehr's shop and he had a nailhead he was building for some serious power. That open cast lifter galley is a known weak point if you're pushing into tall HP & torque numbers, and he had some type of super strong epoxy goo that he used to tie everything together into a sealed valley with drain holes - put a piece of greased PVC pipe in the cam bearings (not sure what they used to cover the void on the bottom of the valley) and poured in the mixed goo to set up. Said it made them almost bullet proof with rigidity.
Bobby,
How long before the paint is put to the test around the exhaust ports?:HMMM::)
Jack.
I don't know why the POR-15 wont work. I just use ordinary black DuPont Centari body paint and have never had a problem with that on several engines. But I do have problems with POR-15 on anything except when I get it on my hands:mad::eek:
Steve that happens to me also in some threads , if you click on my link at the bottom and look for the album most likely it will open there at webshots .
Rs yeah its weird the the lifter valley is wide open . But from my understanding its hard to crack one of these blocks .
Jack it will be awhile but I would put my faith in it . POR 15 is a great product and for them to improve it for this application , they wouldn't take any chances .
As IC2 says there is good luck with counter paint . Also the original paint is not burnt around the exhaust ports so all should be fine .
Ok back to body , when I got the car someone put a liquid wrench to the firewall . I wasn't in any hurry since I had no obstruction in the test fitting the 302 .
Well someone I know took one out I think its a Bitchen model firewall 4 inch recess . What I did was trim off the outer portion so it fit in the opening . I sheet metal screwed it down then took my saws all to one side . At this point I had a nice gap so I spot welded it in .
Then across the top and the other side same process . When I was done the firewall fit the opening perfect and then just welded it in .

Next is the floor , I was thinking the sheet metal and since that involved a lot of driving to a friends to use his bead roller and bender I cheated and went with a Direct sheet metal kit . The panels all fit perfect except one I will pie cut and fill it in .
I took some solvent and a wire brush and cleaned it up some .

Not welded in yet since it will be sand blasted to all shiny metal .
Bobby - you might consider just bolting the floorboards in as it really makes doing some chassis work a breeze rather then having to flex those creaky knees and roll under the car - you can always use some 1/2" angle if you feel you need some added strength at the bolting edges. The 'boards that Brookville installed in mine were totally replaced by stronger pieces
Ya know Bobby... I've realized that you have to many motors and should send that little 302 over to me! Since you won't be using it now that your over on the dark side.. 8-)
Yep! send it over for proper care and handling! :D:LOL:
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........... Looking good. Makes me wish a little that I had scored that 30. Well I guess you can't have em all........:D
Yep yesterday the pictures showed up for me too, and I reread the whole thread to get the illustrated version! Nice work Bobby.
On my truck I had a local metal shop fabricate two panels for me. They had done some steel guirders in my house, and are into old trucks, so they made some inexpensive pieces for me. It was a lot easier than buying a bead roller and sheet metal press/cutter. Sometimes I wish I had a bigger shop, so I could buy all the fab tools I need, but for now outsourcing certain things works well!
Bobby was it you who had the Honda Goldwing?
Steve no I don't have any Motorcycles , Hence the cars wife controls that since I was hit by a car in 1987 . But she don;t say no to 4 wheels untill I get to many :D . I am in the process again on another garage to be built ot back , it.s with the building dept at this time .
Bluestang,
Here's a link that gives more details from a buick forum.
455 Lifter Valley Improvement
Thank You RS building as much info on these as I can .
Ok this should get me near to where it is . A while back reading Craigs list I seen a Le Baron Bonnie Tudor interior for sale . It was up near Rockford IL. and he was asking $400 for it so I drove up for a look . It was a older set never installed the front bucket covers had a little critter chew and was dry rotted at the bottom where it tacks to the wood , well after a chat I picked it up for $300 , these are $1900 from Bonnie all day . I had the front buckets redone with original material from Le Baron Bonnie so it would be a match .

Once again Bobby, NICE Job!! And another good deal falls into your lap! You make it look to easy! LOL..
Mike if this car had spirits I swear its begging to get back to the road . Certain almost unobtainable things are showing up at the right time . Since this happens the name for it is Time Machine someone gave it that name , will look stock interior and be fendered .
You certainly come a long way Bobby, nthing wrong with stock interior, mine is not that far from stock, I`ll see if I can dig up a photo...
Nice score on the interior kit. Looks great
Rich I have had it since Fall of 2007 and probably have about 7 months on working it . The body being clean is the savior the rest is more just bolt in and go stuff . The 37 I have been talking with a local interior guy on doing it in Mohair .
Steve Thanks now the last thing I need is the right steel wheels and new tires maybe that will fall for me , But I doubt that one LOL .

Here`s a quick shot of the interior, sorta stock, but comfy.
That is nice , and exactly the look I want in the 37 !! It's perfect for the era and does the inside right . Could you email those to me at bluestang67@yahoo.com ?
I have 1 more post to put up and that will be the one that catches me up . But still lots going on to the Model A so stay tuned , same channel , same time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Mike Sounds great you have found what will work , This is all that matters in our car enjoyment . My wallet is no way fat just got lucky . Your interior will be fresh and thats the main goal right ! I hope to be able to maybe swap this car with different one's to have fun in as we get to the stage of driving fun .
That Tudor build-up takes me back to '85 and my 454-powered red 30 A-bone tudor sedan.
They say that "nostalgia ain't what it used to be," but I disagree.

Jack I have been thinking of a white top to help keep it cooler . I remember this pic so much of you Tudor and it looks great . Been thinking also on widening the rear fender and bringing the running boards out to meet . Some labor but cost effective on fiberglass .
Widening the metal boards isn't a big deal either, Bobby, takes about 4 or 5 cuts and some new sheet metal. Thinking your boards are in real nice shape, aren't they?
I would probably just make some 6-8" pie cuts once I cut the rear flange loose then use Dave's sheet metal to fill in the gaps and to lengthen the flange. The outer edge can be heated and bent to shape. You do have a strengthening rib on the underside to contend with. Not a big deal:whacked:
Before you do that much work, these are pretty big at 265-60x17 and over 29" tall and almost 11" wide:
