The rear tire I have and want to run are 255-75-15 and will require a rear end narrowing or the widening in the metal . The labor is free and metal is cheap . That's what is placing me in this mode of change . The tires are 29 inches tall .

This is the size tire I set up the rear suspension for .

Randy with the wheels the A needs it will have about a 3/4 inch clearance tire to body should be plenty .
Wheel BACKSPACE is the key word. Mine are 3-3/4 and could have been another 1/2" if Billet Specialties had had them in stock and not been an extra charge to make them as a custom order (more $$$ ea)
Guys this set have a 3 3/4 inch backspace 8 inch rim and I can move them in a bit . The rear is a scooch to wide and with the back space they stick way out , Its been about a year and a half and I could knock off 3/4 back spacing and still clear .
I hear ya Bobby. I think the tire-size/fender ratio & relationship is critical to the look of any car in my opinion and many don't think it through quite enough. I'm going to have to spend a lot more time, effort and probably money in that area on my 37 when I get further along but like you said, the right tire & the right fit...... keep us posted on that process. :-)
Randy will do even if I have to back down to a 235 tire it does have to fit and look right . This was all about refreshing the memory since those tires are up north with the 37 at the moment .
Bobby - get into the Tire Rack site and find a tire you like. When you check the specs on the tire page, you will find a diameter and cross section. It's amazing how much info they have once you figure how to navigate the site -- Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels ----- I spent many hours there looking at tires for mine. I originally had Yokohama AVS 'Z' rated on all four corners, but when I went to the 17" rear wheels, had a problem finding a larger diameter tire, so the rears are Dunlop's, but not 'Z's' (the car wont go fast enough for 'Z' tires anyhow)
Thanks for the info Dave , well as always the house got in the way with a new interior paint and carpet so that has had me busy . I have been collecting some 401 parts and hope to cover it up and get the paint stripped off .

Well Since the por 15 kit was here , I spent sometime Tuesday night going threw the the processes . I like the new color on the 401 , the kit comes with only one pint . Well spraying you lose some in e the air . I did the block , and 1 head and got a light coat on the other head and intake . Tonight I ordered 2 more pints of it to finish it all hopefully .
I have the valve covers to do and the valley pan with the oil pan , plus add a coat to head and intake .
The head shows the true color of the paint .

Yeah, Bobby, the engine is looking great! At least one of us is posting some pics of our progress.....
Mike, not all of us have a huge former dance hall to build our cars in! (where did the freakin' emoticons go?? I need some visual expression here beyond LOL or HaHa!...;-) )
Bobby,
What is that stuff you used to mask off the engine? It looks like a board of some sort glued to the engine then cut to shape.

Randy I had every thing sitting here and ready the last couple weeks , it didn't happen fast . I just decided the other night to get on it and get it done .

HAHAHAHAHA - what you CAN'T see are the piles of treasures on the other side of my car and my work bench in front of the car nor can you see the FEMA disaster area where we "attempt" to park the daily drivers:whacked::eek::LOL:.
Bobby, thanks again for being the good sport! While I've never been a nailhead fan, I am excited to watch and learn from your experiences!
Dave, I was thinking there is no way for a "FEMA disaster" in that "shed".. then I noticed what appears to be a vacuum cleaner hose on the lower right in that pic.. HMmmm.. made me wonder... then I realized there isn't even any "objects d'art" on the walls! Can you say HOSPITAL?:3dSMILE::whacked:
OH, and the "roadlights" over the plate serve more as a distraction and actually draw attention to the area.:(:D
But that's just being picky now... Isn't it?!?!?!
Dave, that just the mark of a thoughtful photographer who frames the shot to present the "subject" in the best light, however, I'm guessing that even your so called "FEMA disasters" are neatly stacked!:LOL: I'll bet after a day working under the car you're the type to come out looking lightly greased whereas I'm that type that comes out looking heavily dipped in it!!:eek::3dSMILE::3dSMILE::LOL::LOL: I've always been envious of guys like that!:p
Now, before we hijack Bobby's thread any further, I'll shut up! You're doing great work on the 31, Bobby! If you have any updates on the '37 I'd like to hear/see about them wherever you want to post them....:)
Fun is not hi jacking LOL .
Randy no real changes yet , he set the tans after fabbing a mount , and is getting ready to make the engine mounts .
So, if a cluttered floor is the sign of a cluttered mind....then what would an empty floor be a sign of???????:eek::eek::LOL::LOL::LOL:
......a terrible thing to wasteAttachment 50020
I knew IT. I was just thinking as I was reading this, wonder whats on the other side behind the camera. Probably looks like my garage. I've got 3000 sq ft of crap stuffed into a small 2 car garage............:D
But that roadster, (insert drooling noise here), Super Clean, Super Nice...........:D
That shot of Dave's roadster and shop reminded me of why I have stopped showing shop shots of the progress, or lack of, on the 34.;) Both Dave's roadster and the shop are the tops.:D
Jack.
Guys - that photo above is an anomaly for my shop. Right now, the benches are covered with tools and broken or unused parts. I would take a picture but the shop camera is 'lost' in the litter. Project for later in the week - return to useable condition.
