Project "Left Overs"

Yeah, that isn't a big difference. For some reason my CHR site has changed tonight. When I used to go to a thread it would take me to the last viewed post, now it goes right to the very first opening post on page one of that thread. And a new blue screen has shown up at the top of every thread, listing what members have posted on that thread and the first line of what they have posted. Very weird! :confused: It also has a lttle tag above it that says Post Reply.

Here, I took a picture of that screen. It is also showing that there are 5 pages to this thread already, but I can only click onto the first 4. Plus, if I click on page 4 it would normally bypass 1 2 and 3, but it just goes to page 1 now.

Sometimes my computer doesn't get recognized when I connect to this site, so I have to manually log in, and when this happens I get a different screen.

Yep Steve, I am logged on as usual, but suddenly that new screen has appeared and no matter what I do the thread always starts at the very first post and I have to scroll through to the last one. No one else is getting that screen?? I see Brent is logged in, hope he sees this and has an answer.

I didn't see that it had gone away before I posted - I had never seen that screen before, but I replicated it. Go to User CP, then to Settings & Options - select Edit Options, then select Thread Display Options and Thread Display Mode. I believe you will find yours set on "Threaded", while "Linear - Oldest First" is the default. Once you make any changes you have to save the settings at the bottom of the page and you should be back to normal.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the string [(5280ft/mi x 1hr/60min x 12in/ft) divided by pi] has a numerator of 5280 divided by 60 times 12 which equals 1056, which divided by pi equals 336.13. In the original formula

you're entering MPH so the values in the 336 factor get you to a numerator of revolutions and speed in inches per minute with pi being dimensionless. Then when you divide by the denominator tire diameter in inches you're left with RPM.

You can do the same thing on this page in the blue (on my screen) bar across the top (under the page count) with the hot links. Click "display mode" and you get a three choice drop down. You're correct that "linear mode" doesn't have the posting tree, whereas "hybrid mode" and "threaded mode" does. Sounds like Pops is in threaded mode. The old goat just changed modes in one of his "moments".:D

Well, i've got all these buttons on my keyboard and I get curious every once in a while what they do. :D You are right, I must have changed some setting inadvertently. When I logged off and back on it changed back. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone there for a little while. :o

Thanks, Roger. I was using 60 as a multiplier instead of as a divisor. DUH!!:rolleyes: Even at my age I can still learn things occasionally and as long as somebody is learning, we're not beating a dead horse (That's the school teacher coming out in me...:o).

Don, sorry we hijacked the thread for a few postings, but some old fart (me) had to have help seeing through "the haze".:HMMM::D

Today was like Xmas, UPS brought me a Speedway box. :D I got the new wishbones and Ford tie rod ends for them. They are really really nice, and so close to the originals you would be hard pressed to tell the difference......except these have no pitting and all that normal stuff.

Once I laid them up against the car I decided to run the front end suicide, so I called Speedway back and ordered the proper perches that screw into these. I also ordered my tires from Coker. I am going to run my usual 5:60 x 15 whitewalls on the front (just like my 27 has) but on the back I am going to run the 8 inch wide Firestone slicks, also whitewalls. I had the same tires on the back of the 23, except 10 inches wide, and after 3 years and lots of miles they still looked good and had lots of tread depth left.

Finally, I took the back two rims to the powdercoater to have them done in black. I already had them do these same two rims in red a while back, but when I got the black ones from Coker for the front they just looked better to me. Not sure yet if I am going to run the Olds hubcaps I have or not. Once the tires and rims are on the car I can figure that one out.

Here is how the new Speedway wishbones look. So glad I bought them. :)

Geez, I miss a couple of weeks and you just about build a whole new car!!
It really is looking good! I was wondering about the quality of speedways bars, good to here they are nice.

I'm pretty impressed with the quality of these wishbones, Ken. If someone was building a high dollar car these couild be chromed very easily, hardly any prep work compared to using original ones.

BTW, you may have also missed that I sold my 46 Tudor to Don. He was looking for a new project and I was looking for some room in my part of the shop, so we made a deal. He's started moving ahead on it already, he ordered one of the TCI parallel rear spring setups for it. I hope he does a build thread on it when he starts.

I remember seeing those. They were nice, but like you said, about $ 700 a pair, I think. At $ 300 a pair these were more my speed. :D Usually, when people reproduce something they always get something wrong, just enough to make them not quite the same as the originals. Not the case with these, whoever Speedway is buying them from did a great job of cloning IMO.

I don't know if it's the same hardware you saw, but there was a guy in Vegas who was making some a few years ago. He would display them at the LAR swap/show for a couple years. Very well made and looked terrific. But too many people had the same reaction to the price you did. They could still be had, but you'd have to "motivate" him.

Could be the same ones, Bob. I think I saw an ad in one of the hot rod mags for them too. I guess, being that they were stainless and probably limited production, the price wasn't horrible, and they could be polished I would think. If you took these Speedway ones and had them chromed you would probably be in that price range anyway, so maybe they weren't a bad deal in stainless.

Bob, on a side note, I just saw some information that your State, Washington, is proposing a bill to do away with antique collector car plates. Have you heard anything about that?

No, not eliminating the use of the plates, but currently when registering the car with YOM plate it's a one time fee of $35, "good for life" (until sale then it cycles again). Under that program you're limited to use for "car shows" only; driving to and from basically.

The new proposal is for $30 annual fee and somewhat looser restrictions on use, but the bill is in committee so it's likely to get massaged some.

The one time fee was/is an awfully good deal...........so difficult to believe the money grubbers in the state capital would leave it alone, but the real concern is any change usually is just the opening round to future attacks.

What was posted on another forum was that Fred Finn has proposed this bill. Is that the same one you are speaking about, Bob? Here is part of what the poster said on the other forum:

"There has been a bill introduced into the legislature to effectively do away with the benefits of having a collector plate on your vehicle. House Bill 1134 proposes a $30 annual renewal fee for Horseless Carriage and Collector plates. Please read the bill and if you are opposed to this new revenue measure by the state government, you need to contact your representatives in the legislature and let them know how you feel and how you want them to vote on this measure or if they have the horsepower, to kill it."

As you know, sometimes you have to interpret what people write because they use words loosely. e.g. "effectively do away with benefits". I presume his main focus is the inexpensive fee of one time $35 vs. $30 annual. I know that will hit my wallet as I have 5 of them. On the other hand, what's the alternative? If you go with regular, no restriction plates, the fee will be even higher than the $30 annual, and because the way the regular plate statute is written you must mount plates front and rear. The YOM plates only require one mounted on the rear, no front necessary (which those of us who don't like "clutter" appreciate). So, IF it works as it appears there will still be some benefit, but cost more. I looked at Nevada as an alternative last year and it was much higher, even than the new proposal, so, like most things in life, you compare your alternatives and choose what works best for you. My first preference would be for we as citizens to force the clowns we elect to budget and spend responsibly.........................but too many of my fellow citizens here don't quite see it my way.:3dSMILE:

Don - I was in the market for stainless whishbones so I reasearched it pretty good. Allen Johnson in South Carolina advertised them but really isn't making them yet. They will be cast but donn't have the tooling done yet. They are making billet aluminum ones now that are really nice. I asked if they would make me a set out of stainless and it came out to $9,000. He is really a nice guy, I felt bad waisting a lot of his time giving me a estimate. But he explained the hours it would take and at a reasonable shop rate that's what it would be. So I'm on my own, we are going to make them here. Cen Pen also advertised them but I had no luck there.

I swear I saw ads for them, or maybe it was in one of those little articles they do in the hot rod magazines about "New Products." Somehow I am remembering something around $ 700.00. But then again, I am having trouble remembering what I had for breakfast this morning. :o:D

There was a post on HAMB back in 2009 asking if IMC was out of business, saying they could not get a web link to work, but there was no definitive answer. Hope you find what you're looking for at a reasonable price.

When Dan gets home from work tonight I'll ask him.........somehow he has the most obscure sources and products cataloged in his head. :) I think he and I discussed the SS wishbones one time, so he might know.

Ken, I spoke to Dan and he remembers them, they had two versions. One was just like a regular wishbone and the other had a hole in it for the tie rod to pass through. He has that info in his computer somewhere and will try to dig it out. I'll keep you posted. :)

On another note, my tires from Coker showed up today. The 8 inch Firestone rear slicks are perfect for the rpu, and I like them even better than the 10 inchers I had on the 23. My fronts came too, so as soon as I get my rear rims back from the powdercoater I can get them all mounted. I was impressed that they got here this fast. I placed the order Tuesday and they showed up today, Thursday. I used my HAMB Alliance discount and saved $110.00! :) That is about 10%.

Tomorrow my plans are to start beveling the cuts on the front frame rails so I can get those welded up. My 34 axle should be here any day now.....anxious to see that one come.

Hi guys today I was visiting one of my rodder friends in the big smoke (Auckland) and was tell him about this conversation on stainless split bones and he told me to get your to try "Fatman's Eng" . That is what he remembers as the name of a hotrod fabrication business up there that sold S/S bones and had two types,normal or with lightening holes done probably. Steve, my friend used to spend our winter up in LA building hot rods for a wealthy movie studio guy so got to know where to source stuff from. I hope this is some help guys.

Whip, I looked at Fatmans site, and while they make some ss parts I didn't see any wishbones. But it looks like Ken has found the one that did carry them, Industrial Metalcraft in Las Vegas. That is from the Rod and Custom article.

How did that counter rotating cutter work for you? I saw them at the COSTCO store here in KC a couple of days back and wondered if it worked or not?
