Yes Don,I remember when I purchased my first fishing rod and all the gear one requires to land the big ones, I asked the salesperson for a guarantee that the rig would always catch atleast one big fish of the edible type everytime I used it.:3dSMILE: But when it proved otherwise and I took it back to the store, they wouldn't give me a refund.:CRY: I have since sold that useless lot of fishing gear and only can hope the new owner has better luck with it.

I cannot remember if I have mentioned this before but I have my meeting with the surgery team on the 22nd of this month for my knee replacement surgery and I'm gonna push real hard to have both done at the same time as I need to restart my life now and get back to work earning some money.

I didn't pick up about the surgery thing, Whip. Sorry I missed that. I wish you well and from what I understand they have those kinds of replacements down pat now, and the healing time is minimal. Good luck with that, and we are still holding out hope on your ex wife being ok.

Ken, fronts are 5:00 or 5:60 x 15, can't remember which. I think the brand is US Royals. The backs are L78 x 15, Cokers, I think. All came from Coker. Don may see this and know more info. They are essentially the same size I have on my 27. If he doesn't see this I'll be at the shop tomorrow and will check for you. Now that I look at his avatar I am pretty sure they are 5:60's on the front. My 23 had the 5:00's on it.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out sizes for the new truck. I want the wide whites and big and littles. I would like something around 31or 32" tall but I haven't bought wide whites before so I'm poking around, thanks again.

Ken, to get that height you are almost locked in to 16 inchers. My rears are only 29.5 high. On the other hand, the 16 inch ones on Dans rpu rear are something like 31 tall, maybe 32. I think they are 7:60 x 16 Firestones. His are blackwall, but he had WW the first time and sold them to buy these, so both are available.

L78 cokers are 29.3" tall Don, I'm pretty sure Dans are 7.50's which are 31" tall.

Ken if you want a tall rear whitewall try either the 890 Firestone at 31", I have them on my 32 and they are nice, or Radir do a 900 which is 32" tall

Is that about the widest is the wide whites? I need as wide as possible, 12" would be great.

I know of no wide whites that wide, Ken. You might have to make your own. :D But knowing your capabilities, you will probably be able to do that. :)

Yep, it looks like Diamondback has one that is 11 inches wide, their 2:75 x 16

Thanks, I thought I had seen them all, I searched using every term I could think of and Diamond back never came up :o The 17" ones are even wider, but I will check to see if I can get a chrome rim that size.

Dad was right on about the brand and they are 5.00's not 5.60's. They are wearing fantastic. Short enough to give me a bit of drop in the front. I bought them at Coker. Hers a pic:o

Still don't have any updates on my rpu project as it is on hold while we are thrashing on Dan's rpu, trying to get it done in time for Billetproof (April 9th). Dan has off every Friday and Saturday, but the last few Saturdays he has been playing out of town, so that cuts us down to one day a week to really hit on it. So what we have been doing is going over a few nights every week after he gets off work and doing at least a few things.

We have been concentrating on the front end. We installed the new Posies spring to replace the one that let the car sit too low, this one brought it up about an inch and a half, just right. We got it painted and installed, then I took his Buick drums to the machine shop to have the backs cut to clear his 39 Lincoln brakes (Wilson Welding versions). Dan was sweating bullets because I have had this set of drums for about 30 years in my stash and they are mint. He was worried that some fins might get damaged or that the back might be machined wrong. But the machinist races an 8 second S10 and knows hot rods, so he did them exactly right with no damage. :)

While we were waiting for those to be done we installed the backing plates, shoes, and hardware, then we installed the SoCal steering stabilizer. I will never build another car without one of these on the front end. I have one on my 27 and Don has one on his 23 T. They have both handled so much better since we installed them, now I see why no car has left SoCal without one in 30 years. We also got his caster set at 7 degrees and his toe in at 1/16........those should be good starting points.

The final thing we worked on was the steering box. He is using a Flaming River reversed Corvair box and we had to build a tapered shim to make the pillow block line up correctly inside the firewall. While he was doing that I was modifying a stock Corvair (forged) steering arm by cutting some new teeth in it so it could be indexed right. I also had to use a 7 degree tapered reamer to bore out the one end so we can use a stock Ford tie rod end on it. I learned the hard way you can not hold on to a steering arm on the drill press while using a tapered reamer. It tore it out of my hand and threw it across the shop. :eek: I then ran a bolt down through it and the drill press table and that did the trick. I learn REAL fast sometimes. :o

Tomorrow we are going to try to wrap up the steering system. Dan is going to measure for the braided brake lines from the frame to the wheels and get those ordered Monday. Chrome shocks and drag link are on order and should be here Wednesday. Once we have steering and brakes we can slip in the driveshaft and maybe he can finally take a spin around the parking lot! :eek::D

Only a couple of pictures to post, nothing real exciting, but here are the finished Lincoln/Buick brakes, and the SoCal stabilizer in place.

Thanks Steve. Yes, we ARE close!!!!!!!! :D:D We just got in from another 14 hour day and they are really paying off. Today we got the entire steering system in for the last time. The box is mounted, the column is in, and the steering wheel actually turns the pitman arm. Wednesday when the drag link shows up he will actually be able to turn the steering wheel and have the front wheels turn too.

We also got the front shocks installed, put some spacers on the rear wheels for some extra clearance, and raised the body up 3/8 of an inch for some clearance around the transmission. All that is left is some brake lines, adjusting the shifter, putting in the driveshaft, and minor stuff like that. It still hasn't sunk into either of us (especially Dan) that the end is so close.

Our game plan is to get the mechanical stuff done so it will move under it's own power, then if we have time he can paint the grille shell and some little cosmetics like that. He won't have time before April 9th to get the nerf bars chromed, but he plans on mounting them anyway so he has a place to hang his license plate.

Now it's bedtime so we can get another early start tomorrow. :D

This is the year, Brad. I'm going to make it a point to finally get to meet you. :D Hooters sounds great. (and the wings ain't bad either :cool:)

We got a little more work done on Dan car yesterday but Saturdays are usually not as productive as Fridays because we are too wiped out from working on it so many hours. Both of us were sore and tired, but we got his shift linkage sorted out and he got all the brake hose measurements so can get those ordered Monday.

When he gets home from work tonight we may go there to just do a few small things to keep the momemtum going. One of those things might be to put his driveshaft back together. We had to remove the U joints when he had it powdercoated. We may have enough energy left to do something like that. :)

Does anyone remember portawalls from the 50s and early 60s? They were a rubber white insert that you put on the tire before it was mounted on the rim to make a black wall look like a white wall. Does anybody still make them? Just a thought.:D:D:rolleyes:;) Maybe a new old come back in the works.:LOL::HMMM:

We ran 'em with tube-type tires. Don't know if they would work with tubeless tires. The main problem with 'em was that....at speed, the air would get between the port-a-wall and the tire and stretch the paw material so that it looked like a bunched-up mess. As long as you were just runnin' around town, they were fine, but stay off the high-speed roads.

And that's why we call them Flappers over here.:D

I ran some back in the early 60's, but they were very short lived. If you touched a curb they tore, and even going down the highway chunks would come flying off. Maybe these new ones are better.
