He's talking about turning the engine over when you start it up.....what did you think??? LOL!!!

I don't know what to think.... that's the question! I know I'll be turning over some cash!
Sometimes you just have to farm it out; I got to that point with the paint on my 48. What's your delivery date??
It's supposed to be done in 2 weeks. I told him no rush as I'm not going to install it 'til this winter.
I really wanted to do this one "hands on"... but, I wouldn't get it moving for who knows how long! At least I know it's done right also. In our monday morning phone exchange he already had it apart and measured up. He told me the "other" machine shop that did the 30 over bore had left the cylinders in terrible shape and it looked like they did the finish with a hand hone! And the cam bearings all had dents in them! Brand new but installed by a gorilla!
So I'm glad it's getting looked after by a professional with 35 years experience. Thanks for the reply also!
I will do head gaskets and up but the heavy lifting, I am happy to leave that to folks like Pat or Jerry. Building the bottom end is tricky and experience pays off.
Pat, Jerry? Would either of you guys know which distributor gear to use with an X303 Ford Motorsport cam? I couldn't find the info on the oem site..
Mike - you need a steel (best wearing), bronze or 'plastic' gear for the steel 'letter' camshaft. The cast iron gear will not survive. You also need the Ford Racing steel camshaft retainer instead of the OEM cast version and, preferably all ARP bolting. Then, of course, if a mech. fuel pump, you need a longer drive pin (I have 22 extras if you need one as they are unobtanium from Ford) and a one piece eccentric plus that ARP bolt. All this from my Book of Lessons Recently Learned
Thanks Dave! No sweat on the other "details" as the engine shop "should" / "better" have that covered. I was just looking on-line at distributors and it popped into my head that I may need to change the drive gear.
I had one of those "moments of vindication" yesterday.. I was second guessing myself in the decision to build a stroker since this motor was already all new. Well I went to the shop to check on progress yesterday and the machinest smiles at me and says "hey, ya gotta see this!" He shows me the conn.rods and 3 or 4 of them have a huge circular gouge in the bearing maybe 50 or 60 thous. deep! I looked at him and said what the _ _ _ _!... He shows me the crank and some of the journals have dents / burrs in them! We surmise that the kid that "overhauled" / assembled this motor had let the conn rod bolts ding up the journal and never cleaned up / polished those birdies! :mad:We also complained to each other as the shop that did the overbore laft a crappy finish and sadly the cylinders aren't straight! Not real terrible but, it should still be the same measurement top to bottom!
So when I left I felt REALLY GOOD that I made the right decision! Or maybe I got lucky for a change!
Well I got the engine back and "played" with it some tonite. I know that some "certain" folks  feel that picture posting should be mandatory so I won't do anything to upset them!
Here's a couple of the short block.
Here's a few more.
What color are you going to paint it? Is this going in your hotrod or are you buying something else to put it in? Of course, answers to both of those questions will require more pictures!;)
and here's what it looks like at the end of today. Hey, IC2... empty your mailbox.. PM's can't through!
That flat rocks:3dSMILE:
HMMmmmm.... I wonder if I'll have enough plenum area ???:LOL:
....and then you'll have to change your pants.....
The new engine looks great!!! Glad you got it back and together, anxious now to see it installed!!!!!!
Mike - lookin' great. And yep, painting it black shows off any of the fancy aluminum parts really nicely (also, please record that squeal, especially for Randy)
PS: the mail box is now cleaned out as well
PPS: Might even go for a 'last ride' of the year today. Getting anxious to fix the engine clunk so I can really put some miles on next spring
A couple of details I may have missed---did you go .040 over to correct the cylinder bores??? and how about align hone?? deck surfaces too much reflected light to tell if they were done??
Lookin' really good, Mike! I like that big honkin' dual four Shelby manifold, though I suspect you'll be able to watch your gas gauge dip with each trip to WOT:LOL::LOL:
Glad you had a good machinist looking at things and making them right, too. It's amazing what kids do, then claim "just overhauled":(
forty over, yes. aligned bored, yes. balanced, yes. just kissed the deck to verify square.
Or put another way... Can you really consider not investing unreasonable amounts of labor and time in something as visible as the intake and carb?
In a word...???..?? YES!
I can consider it.. and I'll try most anything.. dual quads are for sure not the most efficient way of doing this.. but yes. They look so cool!
How about one of these:

Holly deuces and a bit of tunnel ram happening
Can you imagine that bad boy with six deuces, progressive linkage?? :3dSMILE::3dSMILE: Can you imaging trying to get them tuned?:LOL::LOL:
