    Help identifying my 302?

--i have acquired a 302 out of a boat that sank. i have been told its not a marine 302. the casting #'s ive found are:
--on the left head --CP, 78, 4c09, and on the right head some of the same and 4012.
--on the block onder the intake--xxx, 80, 19
--on the bottom of the intake (intake says ford on top, but it appears to maybe be aftermarket performance?)--4v, 24
    --on top of intake--dije-9245-AA

do any of these mean anything?
    thanks

    D1JE is a 1971 factory 4bbl manifold, D means 197X and 1 makes it 1971. Its a good piece.

about 69-72 is where you're going to find the most powerful fords, before that they were still developing the power design and after that fuel started to increase price rapidly and smog laws and insurace companies started slowing down the horsepower race, which has been lying dormant for a while and has now been starting up again in the last few years

    Cool Marine engine

One thing to check is rotation - some marine engines have reverse rotation. This is not a big thing - except the camshaft, starting motor, water pump and possibly the distributor & wiring need to be changed to correct rotation for a car. If you don't, you may have a 4 speed reverse, and a 1 speed forward transmission (slow)

These are supposedly the strongest "high nickle" engines tho Ford denies any difference.

    302 to 351 identification

New here so dont know this has been cover, but I dont have an interchnage book and all the other forums no one can tell me how to identify a 302 versus a 351w motor.
I purchase a motor from ebay that was described as a 302, my brother in-law thinks that it may be a 351 due to the deck height.

So without taking the engine apart is there any definitive way to tell if it is a 351 or a 302?

The firing order is for a 351 and the lifter valley has 351 ccp 15 cast in it at the front of the valley.

the casting numbers say the block is from 79 and was intended for a galaxie.

I think the intake manifold measures 11.5 inches wide.

    Thanks you in advance

Simple, where the distributor plugs into the top of the block on a 302 is even with the valley. On a 351, the valley bulkhead is about an inch higher.

Or to say it in another way, if the water pump is only slightly below the deck of the block it is a 302. If the water pump is about an inch below the deck, it is a 351
