Ok so im gonna go an get a qaudrajet. seems like everyone locally has either said to me to keep my carb or get a quardrajet. I do hope that it will help my cars proformance out cause its not proforming up to its potential. I def can tell that. its just not were it should be,. an 7 8 Mpg would be better then 4 5Now I got to find a decent quadrajet.

a Q jet would help the MPG but maybe hard to find a good one or core to rebuild. there not hard to rebuild there is guys that will sell you a rebuilt one BUT if you did not go that way a carter or eldelbrock 750/800 cfm would do fine for your rpm . you get it 1/2 running rigth your hands will be full or your pants did you ever run it with out the air cleaner? the air horns are not getting shut off? from the top lid?

Also be aware that a Qjet requires a spread bore manifold.

I have never really ran the motor with out the air breather on it but its not obstructing anything.

What is a spread bore manifold so I would have to buy a new intake that kinda sucks I already have a edelbrock. my be I'll just get a edelbrock. cause the holley just doesnt make me crap my pants. it should have alot more in it then it does so I dont know. Ive been kinda disapointed with the car. Im hoping that a new carb will fix the problem.

    Can you say "money pit?"

If I were you, I'd try to make your current setup work reasonably well. What if you buy a new carb, throw it on and NO difference, then what?

If there is a problem beyond the carb a new one won't fix it, but I agree it is an easy fix but hoping things work themselves out and get better is only that, hope.

I'd try new plugs before a new carb, you'd be surprised what a difference the right plugs can make, and it's only a $20 risk.

Best of luck, looks like a unique ride for sure!

If you buy a new carb from Summit, they will take it back if it doesn't work for you, no hassles. Excellent company, nothing to lose by trying a new carb. The Edelbrocks would match your intake, and work great right out of the box. Dumping more money and time into the old setup doesn't sound smart to me, IMHO based on what you have already spent and done.

ok Was thinking maybe my exhaust might be restricting the motor too much, so I was thinking bout getting exhaust dumps. A couple guys up here said on the older motors that the open header help proformance a ton. An was figuring if I ran a y pipe in to the cutout then there would be no restriction at all I beleve I got a 2 1/2 inch or 3 in exhaust but it goes 2 in to one. was thinking the open header would free up the restriction.

I agree Summit is an excellent resource for this and many reasons, but if we abuse their liberal return policy, it WILL end; the bean counters will see to that. Most vendors have changed their return policies lately, can't see how Summit won't if it costs them too much $ in the long run

As far as *trying* a new carb, unless you spend the time and $ to tune it to your engine/needs, it might very well be a useless exercise - let's hope it comes out of the box ready to run as is. How often has that worked for you? Me, not so much...

Fieroboy, it seems you have a narrow issue, your fuel curve; tune your carb and go have fun - I guarantee you, it won't be the last issue you'll have with a unique build, but have fun in the process

Yea doing that to summit would be like buying a suit for one occation to look pretty an then returning it. Im not in to the scam artist kinda thing. I have a guy coming over tonight thats a local stock car racer at our local track an he said hes really good with the BB motors he's coming over with a avenger series carb he said the DP carb is probably too much. he said he's bringing a 750 avenger. I said I already have a 750 DP but he said a DP will dump more fuel even if there the same CFM so an I think I might just run straight pipes out the side of the car behind the rear tires. an use a super trap style exhaust resonator tip with the plates an what not to try an quiet it down. I dont mind the soundI can only drive it 20 miles at a time any way.
