engine dies once it warms up

    Hi,
I have a 350 and once it hits 160 degrees my fan kicks on. About 10 seconds after that then the engine dies. It will start right back up back will die again when i give it gas. The fuel pump is new, the filter is fine. The carb just came from sea level, could it be overloading it?

    thanx

What kind of fuel pump, and carb ? brand, mechanical or electric ? And what exactly does just came from sea level mean ?

I have heard many complaints of demon carbs recently. You might want to take it apart and make sure it is free from contamination and has the right jets etc ............

When moving to altitude rule of thumb is you want to drop jets one size for every 2000', you may need to reduce your power valve one size as well (i.e. from 10.5 to 8.5)... what do your plugs look like (rich/lean)? What rpm does it idle when running cold? How is your timing?

Does the exhaust smell exceptionally rich? Do the insides of the tailpipes have any color to them? I think you are running too rich with a carb that is tuned for air... you have less air so you need less gas.

Oh yeah, make sure your tank is vented correctly or the cap is working right. If not vented correctly over a short time period you will create a vacuum in the tank and not get any fuel. That fits your symptom and it's fairly common.

I havent changed the jets yet becuase once i drive it everyday I will be going from 4000 ft altitude down to around 1000 so im not sure the best way to jet it. Im timing is at 12 right now. Its idling at 650rpms right now cold. It seems a little rich, but most the time im starting it in an open garage. There is a little bit of a haze in the air at the beggining when i first start it up even being outside.
How would i tell if my tank is vented right?

    thanx guys for the responses,
    david

Drive it with the gas cap off.
