It does make for a good trans, Denny. No doubt about it. But with big slicks and steep gears a top loader just won't live long at 600 plus ft. lbs. torque. And usually when a part breaks, it's in the final round when the $$$$ is on the line.

The Top loaders and Muncies are fine on the street, they just won't last round after round of drag racing with the big torque numbers.
