I agree the gearing has some to do with it, but certainly not all. In a high geared car it takes a bunch of power to push it up there. You could take a car that would freely rev to 6000 rpm with say 4.10 gears that might not be able to reach 5000 with 3.00s and end up actually slower for top speed. Other things that have to be considered are drag coefficient and suspension.

I keep seeing Saleen in these posts, are they true production cars?
