I agree the gearing has some to do with it, but certainly not all. In a high geared car it takes a bunch of power to push it up there. You could take a car that would freely rev to 6000 rpm with say 4.10 gears that might not be able to reach 5000 with 3.00s and end up actually slower for top speed. Other things that have to be considered are drag coefficient and suspension.

I keep seeing Saleen in these posts, are they true production cars?

Ii agree with what you are saying stu, and was kind of thinkng about the 4 to 5 dif. cars that its look its came down to. i guess the fastest car means mph out of the show room, and i have no idea what that is, but dont look like it would to hard to find out. looks like the Saleen co. take other cars like the mustang and put body kits and add hp to them and you have a saleen model. to me thats not a production car. the Saleen S7 they produce would be questionable. ive all ways thought of the European cars being the fastest on top end and the american cars faster in the 1/4 mile.
