    L92 Heads

    Hey guys,

Anybody heard anything on the new L92 heads from GM? I just read an article in GM Hi-Tech performance saying they will rival most aftermarket and CNC'd heads in flow and power. Bare they list for $175 each. They support bores between 4" and 4.25". Not for an all out race motor but might be a good cheap answer for a strong 383. Anyone have any experience with them. ---Rich

The L92 head is for the GEN III/GEN IV engines(LSx). So, if you were building a GEN I/II 383 then they would not work. However, if you are building a 383 GEN III LSx engine, they would be a great head and cheap to do. However, you need a L76 intake or L92 intake manifold.

Right and they are now offering a new LSX block that is supposed to be super strong. I guess I shouldn't use "383". A stroked LSx is now generally what, a 406 these days? At least thats the most common size I see. What's the bore X stroke of those? ---Rich

Well....406 is still a GEN I term. But:
    You can build a 383 by using a LS1(5.7-346ci) and by a 6.0L block
    Some build a 402 and 408 using a 6.0 block
You can also build a 418 with a 6.0L block

I really should think a little or look something up before I open my mouth. : } A 383 LS1 is a 3.9" bore (plus a hone) and 4" stroke. An Ls2 block stroked would be a square 4" for 402ci. A pair of the L92 heads with decent valves and springs, a lumpy cam and the L76 intake (shhh I'm an injection fan) sounds fairly economical and strong. Although probably more in it's element in the 402, an LS1 camaro is dirt cheap. I just need a '98 - '01 4th gen to get started. ---Rich

Sounds like a great combo. A 228/232 Cam in that would be a great DD cam and have good manners with plenty of power. I see about 500rwhp or more from that.
