Header Wrap
Has anyone used the lava rock header wrap? Good, bad, ugly? I'd like to wrap the headers on my 396 re-build in my '67 Chevelle to keep the heat down and keep from melting starters and keeping the interior cooler. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Works great, I use stainless hose clamps turned so you don't see the tightening screw instead of the high dollar stainless zip ties. Why is mine so big and yours so small, Chrysler FirePower

Just a suggestion, while not the cheapest option either, I sent mine to Jet Hot and did the ceramic coating inside and out, made a difference under the hood and it looks good too.

Thanks for this info. Stainless wrapping and clamping is completely foreign to me so I had to go look it up and learn a bit about it so I started with your tool an clamps and ended up finding this short video which is very descriptive and may be helpful to others here so...

I used band-it when I was employed, didn't have to be out the cost for tools and stuff. Now, I would just use stainless steel hose clamps. Less expensive, do the job, don't look too bad, either.

Twistin' and bangin' on stuff for about sixty or so years; beat up and busted, but not entirely dead - yet.

I like the stainless zip ties, they seemed comparable in price compared to hose clamps.
I've always used Summit brand header wrap, no complaints. It goes easier if you wet the stuff while applying - keeps the dust down too..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Can you guys post up any pictures of your wrap? I'd love to see that stainless banding for sure but also the ceramic coating, SS zip and SS hose clamp!
Thanks,

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
