    700r4 and converter question

     



    Hi All - Am putting a 350/330hp chevy crate motor in a '46 Ford 2dr sedan - have a 85 Iroc-Z 700R4 tranny and converter -
    Should I have a shift kit put in the tranny and go w/a different stall converter w/this combination - Car will really be for cruisin', not draggin' - many thanks in advance for any advice - charlyg

    I agree - You have to be carefull of shift kits. Keep it mild for a daily driver. I use a 2000 rpm (Corvette) stall speed converter. Its a few hundred rpm higher than stock.I think stock for a 700r4 in a car was around 1600 rpm.
    A little higher stall speed helps keep the car from jerking when put in gear.

    i would use a transgo jr. kit . this kit is NOT a snap your head off kit and it upgrades all the problems with these transmissions. i agree on the stall that don recommended, the number you want is a B-29 DBLF this is a 2075 stall and it has a brazed impeller. keep in mind some of the 85 units still had a 27 spline stator , before ordering a converter make sure you have a 27 (early) or 30 spline which is late. the number i gave you is for a 30 spline.
