I don’t have any suggestions but personally I think I would concentrate on finding a rebuilder in driving distance. In my mind one of the big problems with doing a mail order transmission for a project is the warranty.

The warranty on most transmissions starts counting down from the day it’s received. By the time the project is actually ready to move under its own power for the first time and the transmission can be checked for function the warranty is either expired or close to it. Even if you still have warranty left or the rebuilder agrees to at least take a look at it YOU are on the hook for at least the return shipping, if not shipping both ways.

With a local rebuilder that you can at least talk to them face to face if there are any issues.
