Torque Converter
I am putting a 8.1 liter motor and a turbo 400 transmission in a 58 Chevy pickup. I was told that I can use a smaller torque converter like one from a V6 to increase the stall. I need more info before I spend the money and time. I appreciate any info anyone has. Thanks, Pat

Those little Vega, etc torque convertors had a habit of ballooning under more hp than they were designed to take. Spend a few bucks and buy one made for your application, like the guys suggest.

yep the smaller core of the stall may help some. i used a vega many moons ago poor mans supper hole shot .i had a 350 stall in my 400 at was out of a smaller v8 or v6 . but i got older hate getting up off a cold shop floor . so i buy converts that do what i need them to and started to get were stock stuff would take the hp or tq .some guys have had good luck with boss hogs . i used many brands some i will never use any more from there poor work .. i used Coan for many years now not cheap but they have rebuilts sometimes and have a low price lineLast edited by pat mccarthy; 01-11-2011 at 09:02 PM.
