    pwr glide downshift-need help

i am restoring a 1966 el camino with a powerglide. I hooked up the downshift linkage to the carb and noticed that when I move the rod that connects to the bell crank, it does little or doesn't move the bellcrank. How does this affect the upshift and downshift of the trans? the linkage rod that connects to the carb is slotted at the end and the other end connects to the bell crank. thanks for any help you can give.

The pin on the carb should bottom in the slotted linkage at wide open throttle, and push the link back so the trans kicks down. With throttle held open, the linkage should be all the way back against the stop inside the transmission..'Glides don't live long with this set wrong!
