powerglide, how many qts of fluid?

i have a rebuilt powerglide. I added 7 qts of fluid and the fluid is leaking out of the base of the dipstick and the tail shaft. Did I add too much? thanks

How are you checking it? Running? Not running? Hot? Cold?

The pan on a 'Glide only holds 3 1/2 PINTS. Even if the converter was dry, 7 quarts seems a bit much!
