The T5 is a good tranny for a 305 cu.in motor, but even then, if it has more than 200 h.p., the input shafts are the weakest link and a very common problem. And this is if it origianlly came out from behind a 305. I wouldn't put a T5 out of a V-6 behind a V-8.

The Borg Warner MM6/T56 can handle 650 ft lbs torque. If you look around, you should be able to strike a deal which would include the clutch, pressure plate, master and slave cylinder, tranny for $2,000.00

If that is out of your budget, try and get a backage from an older V8 car.
