You most certainly will NOT be able to use the bell housing. If memory serves me right, the components from the 2.8 t5 are inferior as well. Get a t 56.

I haven't been shopping for a T56, but I would imagine that there are plenty laying around these days. Keep in mind that it has a 6th gear. In addition to that, it is a strong tranny. Bolting an inferior t5 out of a 2.8, after changing the bellhousing and then maybe the hydralic clutch mechanism, and the flywheel and the clutch and pressure plate, maybe it's cheaper and less work to spend a few more dollars at the beginning of it all.
Remember, the cheap and the poor always pay twice. But then, what do I know.Objects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.

Good luck finding a good used T56; even though they've been out for awhile they're still pretty expensive since they're a popular swap. I haven't found any good ones for less than $1400 or so.
That said, depending on how much power you're planning to get out of your LT1, a T5 might be fine assuming you can find a bell.

(on edit - don't get me wrong, I do like the T56s, just offering an opinion on the price considering his original question)Last edited by Special Ed GT; 11-08-2006 at 09:49 PM.

The T5 is a good tranny for a 305 cu.in motor, but even then, if it has more than 200 h.p., the input shafts are the weakest link and a very common problem. And this is if it origianlly came out from behind a 305. I wouldn't put a T5 out of a V-6 behind a V-8.

If that is out of your budget, try and get a backage from an older V8 car.Objects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.
