About 6 months ago the AOD tranny in my '84 Crown Vic lost everything but 1st and reverse. Just went out instantly. I think these AOD's are the worst transmission ever. My Crown Vic only has 58,000 miles on it (true little old lady ex car)

Anyway, I have another AOD from a 1990 Grand Marquis sitting under my workbench, that I have been saving to replace the one in my 5.0/Jeep truck, in case it ever goes.

My question, is the 1990 a direct bolt in to the 1984, or did Ford make some changes along the way? I plan to take a tape measure to them both, but I would like to be real sure before I start bench pressing the old one out. My one Son was saying something about electronic hook ups, so is that an issue?

If it isn't a direct swap, what years do I start looking for in the local junkyards?
