R Pope, thanks for your advice. I did what you said to do today by putting it in second and then revearse... It works! Now is it doing this because of a clutch problem though or is it normal?
Also I don't plan to tow anything with this truck ever so no need to worry about that. I think I will keep this tranny until it needs rebuilt and then throw in a C4. No point in getting rid of a perfectly good tranny.

Yeah that is normal for that type of tranny. It's like that because 1st and Reverse are not "synchronized" or in other words they don't have the proper alignment device (scynchronizer assembly) to aid in proper gear alignment under load or while spinning.
My '71 F100 has a similiar tranny with an unsychronized 'granny' low 1st gear and Reverse aswell. Not a big deal at all, just be "ginger" with it and it'll last a long time.

As for the C4, they have been able to handle up to 1000+ Hp with the right parts and a decent amount of money. Getting a streetable 300-400hp handling C4 is well within your $600 price range, at least around here anyways. Around here a basic rebuilt C4 with a couple upgrades and a shift kit runs about $450-$500 depending on how you option it out. Could be more or less of they include a converter or not. Just to be sure that if you're gonna run more power through that C4 and if the exhaust (like headers) are close to the tranny -adding excess heat- BE SURE TO ADD A GOOD COOLER!! Can't stress it enough.

In my 388hp 302 in my stang the C4 is stock with a shift kit and a 2500 stall and it's never given me any trouble at all. However I do have a good perma cool cooler on it with a fan directly drawing through it aswell as the radiator.

Alright cool. Well I have a guy here that said he can get me a C4 for really cheap and have a guy he knows look it over real well. He got his 350 for his old truck for 150 bucks and it's got a shift kit in it and everything. If I can get something for around 350-400 bucks even then that would be great, I'd do that in a heartbeat.
