    Question 55 chevy mistake?

i bought a 55 chevy 2 dr post some years back as a project. idea was to build a gasser, my friend in high school had one, vista ca 1977-1979 good ol times... i just got around to this project and found that the front end looks like it has a 70's model gm frontend. never have seen one done, heard about them... what do i look for to see if it was a good job or just a hack job... would it be better to find a stock frame.... i know putting a straight axle under this fronend is out of the question or is it... i was going to buy a setup from speedworks....if the frame that is under there now is ok i will run what i got.... thanks

Got any pics? Close up shots of the front end? I assume the newer GM front was grafted onto the stock '55 frame? First things I would look at are the welds. Are they good (Safe) welds, Was it put together straight? Was it built and never used or does it have some (test) miles on it? If it's been run with the new front end chances are better it's built safe. Once you've determined it's safe, then ask youself if it looks good. Was the upgrade done well or just thrown together? That's just what comes to mind, hard to tell without seeing how it was installed.
