Thanks for the input. I ended up securing the spring with a piece of pipe. Then I torched the spring until I got most of the tension out. Then I cut it and removed. Obviously, the real point is: If your messing around with these coil springs even with the correct tool BE CAREFUL AND PAY ATTENTION!
