easiest way to deal with moisture is a dryer. the hf 400 dollar unit seems to be fine. mine is 3 years old and no problem .
my compressor is set at 120 . for paint i regulate at the gun , hand tools i run 45-60 lbs .

before I sheetrocked my garage I ran copper pipe across the wall and back at a slight angle. Theres a brass valve to let out the water right before the dryer.

400.00 . it is a refrigerated cooler . cool the air after it leaves the compressor and you end the problem .

You want to "NOT" have an inline oiler/lubricator in your airlines if you do any painting or blowing off of parts. The oiler can and will push very tiny particles of oil thru and it can mix with paints and get on parts. I always have a bottle of air tool oil on my workbench and add a few drops to my tools as I use them. I just have a Devilbiss drier inline at the outlet of the hose with a drain for water.

Of course. Alway's have a dedicated line for oil lube tools. I've never had one, I just add drops to my tools, but since I want to paint I'll need another line.

Seems to me, you could have a dedicated air tool line with oiler, just plumb it after the painting line, and remember not to use the oiler line for dusting off.

Not to ruffle feathers here BUT, if I were painting a car or whatever, I would try to minimize the risk of ruining a paint job by using some cheap filter/drier. I understand $$ availability and I have used the el crapo filter driers when I was learning. However, even I could see back then that I was potentially spraying water drops....I could do a blow gun test and actually see moisture. Like Shine says in post 36, a compressor type dryer is cheap insurance. Last time I bought paint, it was pretty darn costly.... buying the paint again would be even worse. Recently, I have been spraying a lot of high temperature paint and post baking it. I was amazed at how effective grounding the parts were to keep airborne paricles from sticking to the parts.....if you don't have a booth, there is an enormous amount of crud floating in the air!!
