So now we know that the $10,000 check didn't relate to this car------good, maybe we can reach a mutual understanding of what he has and what condition its in.

As for the sound of it running on U tube? scrath that off the list----------
Full roller engine-well at least rockers-
overheated because of fan clutch----------maybe, maybe not, overheated? probably------appears numerous missing bolts in accessories including rad support and coolant overflow tank which doesn't appear to have anything in it so coolant probably low
Appears fuel line runs to rear so must be efi electric fuel pump but is carbed?
Sparkplug wires over top of valve covers with headers usually results in burnt wires
Now-what was the original question? Any way, young man (I'm 74) welcome aboard-I probably have done more Camaro engines than these othe rguys combined and I don't believe that you have a $10,000 crate engine, but will try to help you any way I can. So ask away -

Sorry to see you've had a rough start of it "Tie"... we can be a cynical group at times, but when most of us were 17 we couldn't scratch two nickles together.
So be careful when you mention the amount of time and hours spent 'cause many of us have done that for decades! And you come on here asking for help with a motor that's cost you 10 grand... okay, many will take it at face value.. but today at 17 how many fellas are spending that much or have that much to put into a car when still in school or maybe just out of???

I don't want to imply your being less than truthful, I don't even know you! But, I'm asking for you to look at the situation from where we sit, if you got 10K in just the motor, what's the car cost? And all at 17? Again, not sayin' your being less than truthful... but there are 2 sides and you'll also need to look at things from the other side.

SO gives us a break, be honest with your answers and know there will be a lot of info tossed your way. These folks have info and knowledge and will share it with you for the asking, just share some pictures once in awhile..

What I saw of the motor didn't look like cheap parts? And, there are reasons for a motor to stop pulling at a given rpm other than the build. Even the best built motor can suffer from timing and fuel issues.
Personally, I believe he was just a little misguided, and we missed an opportunity to coach a young lad along his journey.

If he (or anyone) is looking for a specific answer they should start a poll--not show an U tube video about exhaust pipe sound----------

He didn't ask, hint, positively state, or humbum any thought except that he was 17, could make a sound video, and he had a car that someone wrote a check for 10g for motor work???????

The whole car may have been worth 10 grand and that's debatable.

Don't overlook that he told everyone that it was Canadian Dollars, so that $10K is $7,200 at today's exchange rates. I'm not saying yes or no about the validity of his claims, but several people did not do very good with their basic read to comprehend skills with this thread, IMHO.

I wasn't aware that the dollar was that weak compared to Canadian dollars. Still, $7200 should build a pretty stout sbc. Tech asked for numbers from the engine, not forthcoming and too many things that didn't jive. If the intake was warped that would sure indicate that it wasn't the only thing warped and he took it to a shop to have the intake milled???? Too many variables not addressed.

I don't disagree that he could have done better on his end. Regarding the dollar's strength, the Canadian dollar is weak, so that it takes only US$0.72 to get CN$1.00 - or the other way, they have to plunk down CN$1.39 to buy a US Dollar's worth of goods.

MHO, he was just a young man that was very proud of his car, trying show us what he had. Some of us misinterpreted his pride for arrogance, when he was pushed into a corner he fought back the best he could. I know most of us here would feel about the same as I do if our son or grandson was treated the same.
It's kinda like the bumper sticker says, "Be kind, it's so easy."
Personally, I'm sad that he left, as our numbers dwindle, who will represent our sport if we don't pass our educations on. Without the young people helping to carry the torch, we may well see our whole industry disappear.

The one word you used, "arrogance", says a lot. I guess I'm getting too old, just can't handle BS and arrogance.

A wise man once told me, "the only difference between confidence and arrogance is Knowledge.", that same man told me, "we should have no secrets in our trade, for if we do not pass our knowledge on, it will simply die with us.", further he said, "the man that can teach is double the value of the man that can only do."

If your going to teach, someone has to want to learn--and sit down and listen and answer questions----

Well, the way I see it, some of us just don't have the patience to suffer kids like this young boy who, for whatever reason, came onto a board of experienced rodders and tried to blow smoke up their derriers with some thinly-disguised ruse about the exhaust system on his ride.

I tried to approach his query from a scientific point of view because it just didn't sound right, what he was telling us, but I never got an answer, not even a hint of an answer to my questions, so I bailed. This kid has a warmed over 305 with a flat tappet Thumpr cam and a $150 set of ProForm roller rockers and you can't convince me differently. Of course, we'll never know the whole truth now, because he lacked the integrity to hang on and prove himself. He even came back and deleted his original post, a juvenile move that cements his place in loserville.

Son, like Ken said, you're a poser. We've seen kids like you all our lives. You're superficial and a product of the declining school and social system whose only goal is "no child left behind", no matter that they didn't learn anything, they got pushed to the next grade level and finally out the door to join the unprepared ranks of all the others out there looking for work who were not taught anything. As far as your not being able to slice and dice with us senior citizen rodders who have been there, done that, well, that will take experience and experience takes time. In the meantime, try to work on the honor and integrity aspects of your personality. Try to stand up, face the truth and conduct yourself as a man instead of deleting your intro and running away like a little girl.

For those of you who don't understand my rant about the system, please see this.....
