MHO, he was just a young man that was very proud of his car, trying show us what he had. Some of us misinterpreted his pride for arrogance, when he was pushed into a corner he fought back the best he could. I know most of us here would feel about the same as I do if our son or grandson was treated the same.
It's kinda like the bumper sticker says, "Be kind, it's so easy."
Personally, I'm sad that he left, as our numbers dwindle, who will represent our sport if we don't pass our educations on. Without the young people helping to carry the torch, we may well see our whole industry disappear.

The one word you used, "arrogance", says a lot. I guess I'm getting too old, just can't handle BS and arrogance.

A wise man once told me, "the only difference between confidence and arrogance is Knowledge.", that same man told me, "we should have no secrets in our trade, for if we do not pass our knowledge on, it will simply die with us.", further he said, "the man that can teach is double the value of the man that can only do."

If your going to teach, someone has to want to learn--and sit down and listen and answer questions----

You first have to find the right teacher jerry. Hard to do that if 5 people answer, and also ask questions, and show a lot of doubt. And throw different things at you all at once...Who do you, or what do you believe then?

Well, the way I see it, some of us just don't have the patience to suffer kids like this young boy who, for whatever reason, came onto a board of experienced rodders and tried to blow smoke up their derriers with some thinly-disguised ruse about the exhaust system on his ride.

I tried to approach his query from a scientific point of view because it just didn't sound right, what he was telling us, but I never got an answer, not even a hint of an answer to my questions, so I bailed. This kid has a warmed over 305 with a flat tappet Thumpr cam and a $150 set of ProForm roller rockers and you can't convince me differently. Of course, we'll never know the whole truth now, because he lacked the integrity to hang on and prove himself. He even came back and deleted his original post, a juvenile move that cements his place in loserville.

Son, like Ken said, you're a poser. We've seen kids like you all our lives. You're superficial and a product of the declining school and social system whose only goal is "no child left behind", no matter that they didn't learn anything, they got pushed to the next grade level and finally out the door to join the unprepared ranks of all the others out there looking for work who were not taught anything. As far as your not being able to slice and dice with us senior citizen rodders who have been there, done that, well, that will take experience and experience takes time. In the meantime, try to work on the honor and integrity aspects of your personality. Try to stand up, face the truth and conduct yourself as a man instead of deleting your intro and running away like a little girl.

For those of you who don't understand my rant about the system, please see this.....

I see it this way myself. He's 17. He worked and is working, and bought his own car. Wants to learn. Looking for any advise as to the sound of his exhaust, and asking if it sounds normal. Then talks about how many rpm's should he riv it. Then, it started going south from there. Canadian Money compared to U.S.A. money. $7200 for the car and the motor he has, is reasonable. Maybe it's his first or second car, who knows.
At 17, you can't throw tech stuff at him. He needs plain talk, to start with.
    He confirmed it was a 355sbc, not a 305.
If you don't teach someone from ground up, there is no way they will understand the upper level of knowledge. And ys, you do learn from experience, and that takes time.
I see it in removing his post, as no one cares anyway, why bother with this group. Can't learn anything here...jmo.

tech and jerry, I have the utmost respect for you and your knowledge (and many others here), but I'm going to say it again, he was just young and proud trying to show off a little. And it's not like non of us have never done that. Unfortunately for him, he picked the wrong place. It's too bad he got his feelings hurt, however I've seen some of the members here act worse than him.
So, Im gonna part this thread with one last tid bit; Don't confuse teacher with preacher.......

Well.. too bad. I had hoped for better. Young fella needed to be taken under someones wing and taught some basics. A missed opportunity on our part.

Tech, I didn't bother reviewing your link, polictical dogma and one persons "truth". And since it's in Texas, completely irrelevant since this young gun was from Canada!

Who knows... maybe he'll come back? Sometimes I'm such an optimist!

This was pretty funny... Politically-Challenged: Texas Tech Edition - SafeShare.TV

But if you haven't been watching the on going news, seems they are trying to dismantle our history a little at a time anyway. Statue by statue, page by page. As in, this wouldn't matter any longer anyway. And it wasn't anything about automotive.
Here, they no longer teach you in depth in automotive at the local college. They teach you how to parts change. Trouble shoot get codes. Get a code, now replace all parts that relate to that code. And you know how much some of those parts are today...Example. For a ten minute cabin air filter that has 2 clips that hold it in, the labor is 45 dollars. They say it's a set rate. Guess what, the guy that does the oil change and checks filters loves this... If the customer only knew how to do this simple thing, he would save some money, and pass on the info to others.
Not trying to get political here, jmo of what I myself see going on. So basic learning in what ever field is very important. As for the video, well, that doesn't relate to the classes they are going for now a days. A lot of people couldn't pass their questions in that if asked. Just saying is all.

A little off subject but it reminds of a time a few years ago during a college football game one of the announcers was saying what each player was majoring in. A little of this and that until he came to a fellow who was majoring in "playground activities". Say what. What was he learning to do, to tech kids how to play tag, dodge ball, skip rope, hide and seek etc....... Give me a break!

Hey so im sorry i buggered off but i just got mad with the people calling my a liar. I have issues with that kind of thing so I want to give it another shot because this car is my life. But first I want to make a couple things clear.
    I AM NOT LIEING!
i gave you the information i thought you wanted but let me put absolutely everything i know down here.
The car has a 350 sbc that was bored out to 355. It is a full roller motor. It has edelbrock aluminum valve covers, edelbrock 4 barrel carb with an edelbrock air filter, it has wrapped headers back to the 3 inch chrome tips (not straight pipe as you saw in the vid), it uses an edelbrock efi fuel pump and regulator to supply gas to the carb. It has an aftermarket over sized rad and an all new wiring harness in it. the internals of the motor i do not know. its been camed you can tell. The bill i was given by the man i bought it from was $10,000 for the crate engine and all the parts (and when i say all i mean absolutely everything, timing, water pump and hoses, all the electrics which were heavily reworked, all the wiring, EVERYTHING) along with the misc labor that was done for stuff he couldn't do.
THAT IS WHAT I KNOW. I cant get numbers because the motor barely fits in the engine bay of that car so there is no way to get the numbers to prove it was originally a 350. and i dont plan on ripping apart a motor to show proof to guys on the internet that don't believe me.
now the reason it was a video of the exhaust sound is because you can hear that audible change when you get to the higher rpms and i wanted to know if that is alright in a car with that kind of motor. the reason i ask on here is because there is no one that i know that knows anything about cars that old, NO ONE. so i only know what i can look up and so far i have been fine but i couldn't find anything on this kind of problem.
And to the people that says that because im 17 i can't afford this so it clearly makes no sense to how i could afford it. I flipped alot of sleds, chain saws, quads and dirt bikes over the years and saved up my money over the years because i knew what i wanted.
If you don't believe after all that please just go away and bug someone else, im not trying to be better then anyone, im not trying to say im faster then anyone, im just trying to get an answer so i don't destroy my car because i love it and i will not be able to get another one for a loooooooooooooooooooong time if has a catastrophic breakdown.
Now sorry for the rant. Its 1:30 in the morning and i have a bus to catch in 5 and a half hours.

The question i had and is what i was wonder about is as i stated above is hat audible change you hear when you get to the higher rpms alright in a car with that kind of motor?

Maybe where ever you live you have issues with your system but up here its pretty good. declining school system? Maybe you are having that problem in the states but our schooling up here is doing pretty good! no kid left behind, what a joke. do you know what i personally have had to go through to get anything in life because i dont think you do seeing as you know absolutely NOTHING about me. I have had to do alot, because you are the kid left behind when you can barely afford to pay for you school lunch because every hard earned sent you make goes into the thing you love. And as for the whole "stand up your a girl stuff", I tried to stand up on a forum with people who as you've said "have been there, done that" for waaaay more years then a 17 year old kid that has only been able to teach him self because there is no one around here that knows anything about cars, our high school doesn't even have an auto class for Christs sake! I did my best, the info i gave was what i knew, i didn't lie or exaggerate one bit. so please next time you try to attack someone personally and throw in some political crap you identify with take a step back and ask you self, did i a senior rodder need to even bother my time attacking a 17 year old kid on the internet thats just trying to get help with a question he had?
    thanks for you time
