Maybe try a clay bar for detailing a car first. It's probably a safer alternative to other more aggressive options because there is little chance of scratching the glass. It is designed to strip all the particles and road dust for a smooth surface before applying wax to a paint job. If it is the glass itself this will obviously not help, but that's what I would try.'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Eastwood, and some others sell some stuff and the wheel to buff the glass. It's quite a bit of work, but with patience you can get rid of scratches and small pits. I haven't tried it myself, but a guy I know did his 55 windshield before he put it back in. Looked great except for some slight fogging at the edges, no fix for that though.
