Anyone running one of these puke tanks on the front of their hot rod?
The spreader bar on my '29 Ford got smashed off and I've been looking to replace it with sumthin other than the usual SS tubing
Since she tends to puke a little more than the side tubestyle tank can handle on extemely hot days, I figure it will be useful

I'm using a 2 gal moon tank now, mounted between spreader bar and grill. Although I may make it functional as fuel tank. Found a nice little manual two way valve to switch between tanks...............but who knows. It looks cool...

Thanks Ken. That tank will always have a special place on the front of this car.
Sorry to hijack your thread. Let me ask you about your radiator overflow issue. You certainly have enough radiator surface area there, what kind of fan and shroud are you running? Thermostat? Cap pressure? Reason I ask is with that big of a radiator (if everything else is right) it should cool great.

The Tank should work fine as long as it has a tube inside running to the bottom or the fitting is on the bottom. Most coolant recover tanks on cars these days sit lower than the top of the radiator and the hose is attached to the bottom of the tank

Your overflow tank should not start out empty, you want some coolant in there to replace what goes out, when the motor cools it sucks it back in. Make sure your cap is designed for a CLOSED cooling system. A regular cap is designed to let coolant out, but won't open to let it go back in.
What temp is your engine running at? Are you getting warmer at lights or going down the road?

Oh, and make sure your overflow hose from the radiator goes to the correct fitting on the bottom of the overflow tank. It should go to the lowest one when looking down into the overflow tank. The theory is, the excess coolant rises and eventually will come out the taller tube. If you are hooked up to the wrong one it will spill out much faster onto the ground.Last edited by Itoldyouso; 09-14-2010 at 11:37 AM.

This is the cap I'm using (16lbs.)

On extremely hot days, she'll push 215-220* at lights.
It's roughly the same going by the thermocap.

I'm not overly concerned about it since I check my fluids before every outing and it only happens on extremely hot days
I just don't want it to puke on the ground at shows or the track
The front tank is more for aesthetics than anything since the usual SS bar is kinda boring
If I can get it to catch some puke, then it's a win win for me
Yeah, I cross posted as this forum tends to go down more than a cheap hooker

Great way to lose credibility on any forum where members frequent similar others
I don't have a problem with posting on 1,2 or more forums IF you 1. do NOT get an answer or 2. Get a response that is so far off that it doesn't make sense. As far as going down - yep, a problem here, but most of us live with it and understand the forum owner and the fact that his living is made elsewhere.
And being compared to a cheap hooker - that for sure wont endear you to anyone here or elsewhere.
Do what you like, there are no limits as far as where and what you post.Dave W

One thing you could look into is the 160 deg T-Stat. Too low of t-stat could make you run hotter because it is not letting the coolant stay in the rediator lon enought to cool it down.
I had a 77 vette that had a 160 deg t-stat in it and it ran 210-230 deg. Lost coolant all of the time. Put in a 180 deg t-stat and it ran 185-190 all of the time.
Just a thought,Bug

if the radiator cap does not have the vacuum valve, you need a different 1.. it's a little spring loaded cup on the bottom under the gasket.. this is what Don is talking aboutYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

Since he already told me on the HOTRODDERS.com site when I mentioned this, all of you kind folks are just preachin' to the choir as "he checks the fluids before every run".

I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
