I've heard of people using truck bed liner rolled on thick to act as a barrier. Rubberized undercoating too. Didn't someone on here recently say something about Lizard Skin? I've never had a rod with fenders so I don't know personally, but I thought I would give your thread a bump to the top so someone who knows will post.
