    Nova steering / exhaust manifold

Is there more than one power steering box for a '68 nova? I have a PS box from a '68 but when I bolt it to my frame there is a fight with the exhaust manifold. (Camero ram horns) LT1 manifolds miss by 1/8" Maybe a little close for comfort. A manual box misses the ram horns by 3/8" but I'm getting old and lazy.

    Any words of wisdom?

    Thanks.
I have the one with air tubes and it will fit but the mate for it (RS) fights with the dip stick. The stock LT1's will fit all except one ear on the flange (drivers side). I guess I could cut it off and relocate it about 20 deg. I can weld cast but it's not a favorite of mine.

    Thanks,

Easy fix is to toss all the cast iron manifolds and get a set of either shorty or mid length headers....The good ones have thick flanges, ceramic coated, look fine and last a long time!

Dave, I have had that thought a couple of times. The reason behind the cast iron was to keep the noise level down so O can sneak up on people. I used to announce my arival but I'm trying to out grow that. 50 yrs. ago I wouldn't have had it any other way. I have been told the ceramics has a muffling effect.
    Thanks,

Yeah, for whatever reason the coated headers aren't near as noticeable on a car as the old painted ones. The good ones are coated inside and out so I guess that quiets them down a bit... I've put the coated shorties on a bunch of Mustangs over the years, with a good exhaust system behind them, can't even tell by the sound that the car has headers. The stealth attack would still work!!!!

Thanks Dave. That is the sound level I would kike to come up with. Many years ago my muffler of choice was Smitty's steel packs. They sounded good back then.

Ahh just to recall those good days & nights when we were all young, dumb and _____ _______ . (you know the rest..)

This thread is pertaining to a frame for a '46 Chev PU. Starting with a '68 Nova sub frame and building from there back with tubing. Rear is triangulated 4 bar with coil overs holding an S-10 Extreme rear end. Disk on all corners.

I'm considering installing a sway bar to the front.
