Dave, I have had that thought a couple of times. The reason behind the cast iron was to keep the noise level down so O can sneak up on people.
I once felt the need to announce my arival but I'm trying to out grow that. 50 yrs. ago I wouldn't have had it any other way.
I have been told the ceramics has a muffling effect.
