    chevy 454 questions

I have a 454 out of a motor home and i am putting it in a 85 chevy K3500. I am trying to get a lot of torque out of it . I dont understand the math in trying to figure out what i need. It is 30 over and I am trying to figure out what pistons, cam, and heads to start off with then i will be reserching intake, carb, and torqe converter later

Welcome to CHR! 454's will make a ton of torque with the right parts. Will the block clean up and hone ok at .030", or will it be bored? Not much of a chebbie guy myself, but with any engine build the parts selected for it have too match what you want the engine to do, and also the budget for the build! Aftermarket aluminum heads and a hydraulic roller cam can really wake up an old stocker, or if you want even more torque then a stroker kit to raise the cubes will make for a huge torque monster!!!!

big blocks make good torque in stock form it did come out of a motor home??? your not given much to work from as for money you want to spend . some small a mount of head work . and a cam gound for max TQ and good EX .if your looking for more put a 4.250 crank in it and with a 030 over you will have a 489 and them you can go up on heads and$$$$$$

Most likely it has the peanut port heads. which do make torque but run out of steam at a real world 5000rpm with a RV type cam. If the truck has an automatice that shouldn't be much of a problem. As far as the .030 Isn't that a 460 and .060 makes a 468?
I'm guessing the 1961 is the casting #.
