Only way I can see to convert it would be with a floorshift conversion setup from someone like Hurst or similar. Don't buy a cheap floor shift kit or you will regret it (I learned that lesson the hard way years ago when I had to keep climbing underneath to unjam it from being stuck between gears )

Don, you're right about cheap shifters. Been there, done that. But I'll relate a story about one of my friends in High School who used to drive only '49 Fords. He scavenged the column shift mechanism from a boneyard '49-'51 Ford and cut it down to a very short little shifter unit complete, then mounted it (I can't remember where, floor or trans/bellhousing) and he had a complete OEM floor shifter. Pretty slick.

Tech...I did that mod lots for guys back when. Start with a shifter that has a solid lever, and weld a stick from an old floor shift trans to it, looks better than those wimpy '50's column sticks poking through the floor. You end up with a wide neutral gate, but they do work.
Sickiee...no better engine in the world for a Deuce than Henry's finest! The '49 and 3 speed is a sweet combo for everyday use, probably the smoothest of all the flatties.
