Only way I can see to convert it would be with a floorshift conversion setup from someone like Hurst or similar. Don't buy a cheap floor shift kit or you will regret it (I learned that lesson the hard way years ago when I had to keep climbing underneath to unjam it from being stuck between gears :()

Don, you're right about cheap shifters. Been there, done that. But I'll relate a story about one of my friends in High School who used to drive only '49 Fords. He scavenged the column shift mechanism from a boneyard '49-'51 Ford and cut it down to a very short little shifter unit complete, then mounted it (I can't remember where, floor or trans/bellhousing) and he had a complete OEM floor shifter. Pretty slick. :D
Tech...I did that mod lots for guys back when. Start with a shifter that has a solid lever, and weld a stick from an old floor shift trans to it, looks better than those wimpy '50's column sticks poking through the floor. You end up with a wide neutral gate, but they do work.
Sickiee...no better engine in the world for a Deuce than Henry's finest! The '49 and 3 speed is a sweet combo for everyday use, probably the smoothest of all the flatties.
there is a three speed overdrive unit that has a 6 bolt top plate on it---you can put a top from a jeep trans on it and have a floor shift with the stick coming thru the floor in the correct place
if you have the side plate trans then a Hurst is best bet and I have also done that column mod to floor unit---worked very good until I got a real 4 speed floor shift in 62
Outstanding combination, Sickee32; absolute nostalgia. A Hurst three speed shifter is a good thing, too; plenty robust and durable. And, what a blast from the past; I had all the stuff to make that floor shift conversion in the trunk of my car ('51 2 door) when I went into the Navy in '59. My Dad sold the car sometime during the ensuing four years, and whatever was in it went with it.
so does anyone know what hurst shifter application will work on that transmission??
